Valvoline Durablend here in Australia on the bottle mentions a special form of Zinc where it keeps it in the engine and not in the Catalytic convertor ? Is this just a play on words from reducing it or different form of Zinc additive ?
Good question. Seems this was discussed some months ago here. I thought that all the Valvoline brands were like this--special zinc formulation. You may want to contact Valvoline and see what they say.
It sounds like it's what's known as low volatility ZDDP. It does exist. ZDDP (phosphorous, specifically) volatility will be a test in ILSAC GF-5. The additive companies developed this type of ZDDP so it will not be unique to Valvoline, and maybe is not already.

As I understand what Valvoline says on their site, that is what it is. Valvoline put it in all their oils a few months ago. I believe, but am not sure, all oils will be using it soon. Valvoline either started to use it first or made it a marketing item first.
Perhaps we should call it stealth zddp. If it can be kept in the right places then in theory we should see more zddp doing the right job even with less zddp overall in the oil. I like it!

A possibility, but, my mind is thinking it may just slow the phase out/down. I hope there is a chemist out there somewhere that is working with something that will totally eliminate wear, blends well and stays blended with GP II, III, IV base, doesn't harm anything, and can be made fro old Illudium PU-235 Explosive Space Modulators.
Probably more likely a fuel cell of some kind that lets me run my big boss, bright red, chrome wheel, pickup on a little electric motor.
the low evap zinc is out now but I do not think the API has any variance or even a test for ZDDP as to how much goes down the pipe so even if the Zinc stayed in the oil you still leak oil past the rings etc so a Low volitility Zinc to me is just
postponing the end.

NANO particles from old Illudium PU-235 Explosive Space Modulators
IIRC, penrite's spec sheets list a lot of phosphorous and/or zinc in their oils and have done for quite a while
hi jag
what is the diff between the types of zinc please ?
Penrite never dropped the Zinc in the main oils as they are thick enough to avoid the ILSAC ratings and the need to drop it, although they have in some of their cheaper and thinner oils. Other brands have dropped it even in their premium oils.
