Valvoline Durablend or MaxLife

I'm debating whether or not I should go back to using Maxlife. I made the switch to Durablend because its listed as energy efficient and Maxlife isn't. My Galant has about 157k on it. Engine sounds smooth when I used Maxlife but seemed a bit less responsive and my gas mileage seemed to drop a little bit.

I just don't know what oil to stick to. MaxLife or Durablend? I drive about 30-60 miles a day, 50/50 highway/city. My mileage per day can be as much as 100, it varies a lot. What do you guys think?

I put Maxlife Full Synthetic in my wife's Subaru and it likes it.

Maxlife is for sure on the thicker side of each SAE grade. Both Durablend and Maxlife are quality products. I use both. If oil consumption isn't a problem and you really did notice a tick less performance using Maxlife, give Durablend a try!

I use Durablend in my mom's Impala - has a tad bit higher TBN then straight conventional oil. I use Maxlife in my lder Corolla because it helps control oil consumption.

Well Maxlife is a thick oil, if you want the best of the both the worlds, than go with Synpower and add just one quart Maxlife Full Synthetic....i wonder what others has to say about this compromise....

I like MaxLife and think you're getting more oil for the money. I've used it and noticed no "sluggishness" compared to any other oil. That being said, I'd only use it in warmer months...

Durablend is probably a fine oil, but there might be better choices for about the same money - especially with all the rebates that are out there.

Somehow I missed which grade of MaxLife and Durablend you use.
Maxlife 10w30 is kind of middle of the 30 grade range. It has a 100C cSt of 11.5 and a HTHS of 3.3.

Durablend 10w30 has a 100C cSt of 10.84 and a HTHS of 3.0

MaxLife has 300 Moly, Durablend has no Moly.
MaxLife has 1910 calcium/490 sodium in the detergent add pack.
Durablend has 1910 calcium/490 magnesium in the detergent add pack.

Between the two, I would definitely go with the MaxLife if you are speaking of a 30 grade oil.

i too am noticing an mpg loss with maxlife. i plan on trying durablend next, so with that in mind, ill tell you to try Durablend..... so you can report back and see if it makes a difference over maxlife....

whats the difference between magnesium and sodium? maxlife has one, durablend has the other.....

If it were me,I`d just use Valvoline conventional.

The owners manual calls for 5w30. Moly is good! But Durablend doesn't' have any? I thought the manufacturer added it to aid in anti-friction?

EDIT: I never noticed my engine using much oil. I check it every now and then when I get the chance of being on level ground and it's always been at the same area of the dipstick.
