Valvoline Additive from sodium to magnium change

If the container says Dexos1Gen2 then it has the new formula. Valvoline changed the container design/branding shortly afterwards, but there was some overlap as far as I can tell... Pretty sure I saw old containers with the D1G2 logo on them.

I think its to help prevent LSPI. From what i've read, magnesium contributes less to LSPI than say calcium detergents.

Nothing bad at all Zee0six.
Just another way to get there so to speak. Mg instead of calcium.
Interestingly enough Valvoline added Molybdenum and boron and titanium to their additive package as well. In their Advanced full synthetic oil lineup.

I wonder if this applies to the MaxLife SynBlend. The latest test that PQI seems to have on it was from 2014 for the 5w30. The bottle design is different than the one I got as well. According to that test, the SynBlend still used a lot of sodium and calcium. I also dont see anything on the pack about it being dexos compliant.

I wonder if this applies to the MaxLife SynBlend. The latest test that PQI seems to have on it was from 2014 for the 5w30. The bottle design is different than the one I got as well. It's probably not a stretch to say that most any mass market dexos1 Gen 2 oil except for the M1 flavors changed its formulation somewhat around the time that standard went live (9/17).
