After doing an engine & oil flush with Seafoam last month, as well as changing plugs & filters my 1991 4.0 Jeep is now making valve noise (1-2 seconds) at cold start up.

Has anyone else had this issue with engine flushes or using Pennzoil Synthetic? My truck ran fine for about 2 weeks after this oil change, but is now making noise breifly.

Any thoughts? VSOT perhaps?

Do you get the noise only on cold startup? What filter are you using? What viscosity oil? How many miles on the engine? Do you have an opinion on the overall condidtion of your engine?

You may have deposit debris loosened up by the seafoam treatment that have become lodged in the valvetrain oil passages.

Even with Auto-Rx, the second OCI after the treatment will still produce flakes and grains in the dirty oil side of a disected filter.

A Rislone treatment may help at this point, but I'd definitely stay away from a thick product like VSOT.

Your 15 year old oil pump may be a bit too worn and need something a tad thicker at startup to pump. I'd try changing to a mopar or wix filter, and giving Pennzoil Conventional 10w30 a shot.

Just to update: this OCI involved 10w40 Syn Pennzoil, a Purolator filter on a 4.0 inline 6 engine that has 145k on it. Valve noise only happens on cold startup.

Just another thought, I had previously been using MMO with my 2 previous OCI's with conventional oil & did not have have valve noise....and my guys over at the Jeep forum seem to think that MMO should do the trick for valve ticking.
