Since you indicated you're trying to maintain the warranty coverage keep in mind the M1 EP doesn't carry the API certification "starburst".

Mobil 1EP is API SL certified oil this is what counts. API SL WILL meet warranty requirements for a 2003 Toyota. Starburst has nothing to do with warranty requirements of a 2003 Toyota.

TeryT, nice ride. We just picked up an 05' Tacoma with the 4.0L V6. I will change the factory fill out at around 1250 miles to Mobil 5000 10w-30 and run that to 5000 miles. Then at 5000 miles I am going to run the regular M1 10w-30 (not EP) In your HHOT weather I would run the 10W-30 M1.

Thanks. But what about this quote from the Mobil 1 site? Doesn't this mean that it's API approved?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance oils exceed the requirements of API SL/CF and various ACEA (European) specifications.

Does saying this, but not having the starburst mean it's not approved?

It looks like the usual weasel words doesn't it. "Meets or exceeds" not to be confused with "certified" even though they want you to confuse the issue...

If you're sticking with the standard oil change interval you might as well save some $$ and run the standard M1. It very clearly does have the starburst.
