Despite me "nagging" my nephew to DIY his brakes all summer, he waited until the coldest time of the year to declare his car undrivable. Normally we'd DIY it with mail-order or AutoZone parts, or take it to or local mechanic. The nephew is too impatient to leave his car at the mechanic for a couple of days and too unskilled to DIY it, so...PepBoys it is.
They take customers 1st come / 1st served, like Firestone does, which is nice not to need an appt. Costs were $40 pads, $33 ea rotor and $130 to install. Estimate started at $260 but the writer knocked it down to $225 and mounted 2 tires for $20, minus a $20 rebate on brake service.
Anyway, not a bad deal for same day-service. As long as it works ok. Euro cars spec the "semi-ceramic" pads....whatever, I don't care that much, it's DONE!
On a side note.
The writer was a young black kid in an area where people pride themselves on being racist. He was easy to talk to and helped out with the pricing. Respectfull and thorough. Pick-up time he was not around, just the service manager and a few knuckle head service writers. I went out of my way to compliment the kid and tell the manager that he "helped make the deal". The manager appreciated it, but the other writer said, "Brandon is a good boy". I was offended and snapped right back, "he knows his [censored] too". Brandon will get all 10s on the online survey.
