I'm fairly certain that Ford sells the pigtail for a lot less than $250, but when the parts department is staffed with lazy morons, you aren't going to get a correct answer.

The zx2s are not junky, neither are Fords.
That car has to be AT LEAST 8 years old, and parts will wear out.
Auto parts stores should set you up[for less than $250.

That connector, and the resistor it plugs into, is actually a Mazda design, never used in any other Ford vehicles other than the Tracer and the Escort.
