Using Euro PCEO in 3.0L babymax?

I could not imagine dumping HPL after 1k miles because I was using it for break-in. Every in-spec off-the-shelf oil would be perfectly fine for 1k miles of break-in.

If you don't have a use for it anymore, how much do you have and where are you located?

I'm in the Fort Worth, TX area. I have 16qts laying around.

Wow. If you don't have a local take you up on 'em and you don't mind boxing and shipping hit me up in the DM's... $150 + shipping?

I can ship. I have a 12qt box unopened and the other 4qts I can just put in a small HPL box I have from when I ordered their gear oil.

This isn’t really complicated. A ACEA C3 or C6 oil is fine.

For reference, the most common non OEM oil FOR THE 3.0 is Mobil 1 ESP 0w20. It’s a C6 oil. Alternatively, ESP 5w30 is a C3 oil.

I was briefly contemplating that truck. If I got it, it would run ONLY C3.
I was able to sell the oil, I purchased Amsoil's Max Duty 10W-30 for a couple break-in changes, only because it was left over from my last babymax. I'm going to be switching to the Euro AFL 5W-40 after. It meets C3, dexos 2, and BMW-LL04. It seems to be popular among the ecodiesel community, so I'll try it for a couple intervals

I'll be doing UOAs of course

Its interesting, the 3.0 doesn't really seem to do better with higher viscosity oils. On my truck, the best wear metal numbers came from Castrol 0W20 Dexos D oil. The worst came from Mobil 1 ESP 5w30. That said, there is also a break in curve that contributed to that. I just send in a sample of Mobil ESP 0W30. We shall see...

I saw your UOA with the 0W-20 Castrol, you were still over 10ppm. My last babymax was at 8.2ppm with Amoil 5W-30, another user was at 6.Xppm with 5W-40 Delvac ESP.

That's nice, but I live in Texas and I use my truck to tow my trailer and race car. With an engine that already runs close to 260 degrees during operation in an area that gets hotter than hell, there's no way I'm using a 20 grade in my truck.

Depending on the situation, engine temp would generally be higher with a 30w oil than it would with a 20w oil.

I don’t personally think it matters all that much though. I doubt any of us could tell the difference as an end user.

Correct, it doesn’t matter. Engine temperature is not going to be hotter, but the temperature within the bearings is slightly warmer. But it’s inconsequential.

HT/HS plays a role.
