Using an AMSOIL AMK02 preoiler with a TP bypass

I am interested in getting either a Franz or Motor Guard TP bypass filter and I want to use it with an AMSOIL AMK02 pre-oiler. I was planning on installing a bypass filter with a tee fitting at the oil sending unit. Then I saw the AMK02 and wanted one (I didn't like the tank per-oilers that I also saw). I don't think it would be a good idea to install both at the oil sending unit. It might be better to install the AMK02 at the oil sending unit and the bypass else where. But I am not sure where. I really don't want to install an adapter at the present oil filter location to feed the bypass. The intended car is a 2007 Suburban 5.3L (Gas/E85).
Any suggestions?

Other then the sender, or the filter, I think that you're SOL. There may be other taps on the newer SBC blocks ..but I'm not aware of them.

What's your hang up about plumbing both to the sender port?

The bypass filter should be a solid brick wall compared to pumping into ZERO pressure at the port ..especially with cold oil.

Well, you could always use a dual Amsoil bypass setup with the AMK01 pre-oiler and everything would be in one neat package and would not have to tap into anything.
 
I can't think of any other taps on the SBC blocks either.

I guess I will have to use the sender for the AMK-02 and the oil filter area for the bypass line. I just remember having a bad leak at the oil filter area many years ago when I put an adapter on my Camaro. It was more due the quality of the adapter than anything else.

Tech support at Amsoil said that I do not want to tee both of them off of one port.

Yes, the Dual Amsoil bypass setup is nice but I want to use one of the TP bypass units.
 
Hmm ..I think that they were looking at it from a "using an Amsoil bypass filter" type perspective when they gave you that advice...or so I reason.

I would personally have no reservations about plumbing it this way

I like sandwich adapters. The problem with the GM engines with the relief valve in the filter mount is the relief valve can open and the oil can bypass both filters. Perma-Cool has a relief valve plug that solves that problem if you use a sandwich adapter with a relief valve in the filter such as a Ford. The universal 189 sandwich adapter takes a Ford filter. I have managed to get by without a preoiler. I can't seem to wear out an engine by just keeping the oil clean.
 
Ralph, when you use the Perma-Cool sandwich adapter, is it marked which way the flow goes? The return line goes back to adapter, so I won't have to route the return to the pan or the valve cover or where ever else. Is that correct?

Has anyone used any sandwich adapters besides Perma-Cool on SB Chevys with success?
 
There is very little differential pressure across the inlet and outlet ports of a sandwich adapter, so you don't want to use this as the return for your bypass filter. If you were to do this, you would get very, very little flow through your bypass filter.

I don't see a problem connecting both the bypass and the prelube at your sender port, however you don't want to put the tee directly ont he engine block. If you connect a short braided hose at the sender port and place the tee at the end of this hose, engine vibrations won't cause a fatigue failure.

Personally, I don't like hooking up the preluber to the sender port because you would backflush the full-flow filter every time you activate the preoiler. I'd hook the preoiler to the input side of the sandwich adapter and hook the input for the bypass filter to the other sandwich adapter port. Then I'd run the bypass filter output to a hollow drain plug.

BTW: Nice vehicle. I was in an '07 Suburban today, and I really liked it.
 
I get my adapters from www.jegs.com. They are pretty fast with delivery. They can get the flex-a-lite but they are not in the catalog.
They have arrows telling which way the oil flows, some don't. When you look at the gasket side the port you can see goes to the bypass filter. The port you can see from the full flow filter side is the return. The clean oil from the bypass filter returns to the inlet of the full flow filter.
The big advantage to sandwich adapters is you are not getting a false reading on the gauge because you aren't robbing oil pressure off the gauge. I couldn't find a relief valve plug for the Iron Duke engine on the Farmall. It was smaller than the Chevy V8 engines. It also had too weak a spring. What I did on that is I tossed the full flow filter and screwed on a remote filter adapter. I hooked the bypass filter to the two ports and the bypass filter heated up.
