I recentally restored A 1945 ford 9N. I want to convert the oil filter housing to take a roll of TP instead of the Pleated paper catriage that know is the only avilable element. The catriage it trakes now is a napa 1010 or wix 51010. So does anyone know how to convert these filters to take TP.

Now I know that I could purchase a bypass filter like a motor guard or etc. I want to keep in with the original look.

Thanks John

more than likely it wont work, hence the reason for the bypassing of the oil. the built in filter for the engine will see all of the oil from the pump and then go to its respective journal or bearing, if you were to put a TP filter into the main oil filter you would starve the bearings. its better to have dirty oil than no oil. so you're probably going to have to buy a bypass system.

Likely it _is_ a bypass filter being that old, but you sure would want to be sure first. If it is, I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. I converted a System One fullflow filter to bypass using a plumbing drain extension and a piece of a green bean can.

Frantz got their start making a kit that converted those filters to use TP about 1953. Chances of finding one of those old kits is pretty slim. I have an old Frantz three stacker that has three kits in it that will probably fit. I have converted the old Fram cannister filter to take TP but that was 40 plus years ago. The origional filters had good elements made of cotton. They were replaced with junk pleated paper filters. The cotton elements weren't as good as TP but were far superior to pleated paper. You could still find cotton elements in the 60s made by Fram. I think Hastings had them later than that.
Email me the size of the element and the size of the hole. Also the distance down to the orifice from the top of the center tube. I'll bet I can fix you up.

I drilled out the orifices on the 3 stacker and bolted it up under a Peugeot diesel for fuel. Later I bolted it to the side of my Farmall H. My wife found a company in Australia that copied the old single and three stacker and marketed them. There was a Amsoil dealer in Salt Lake City that had a lot of the old Frantz oil filters collected. He would sell you a Frantz and put Amsoil in your car. I saw several race cars around the shop. That was 25 years ago. I'll bet that old guy knew if the three stacker kits would fit the Ford tractor. My guess is they are the same but it is just a guess.
I would make it fit. They are probably set up for 1 1/2" TP. You might neeed to shop around for some 1 1/2" core Scott 1000 Sheet.
Vetteman probably isn't old enough to help us.
