Using 5W-30 in a new Honda

Heck i have been putting 0w40 in one that specs 5w20 US for 80K and its spotless and runs perfectly.

5w30 is fine for these engines.

5W20 has heald up quite nicely in our CRV in the Texas heat. Use with confidence.
 
People worry too much. Use the 5w30. It's only a
recommendation to use 5w20. Heck, BMW recommends
an oil that meets their LL-01 "A3" spec. I've used
other 5w30 oils with no problems. I've been using
mid grade gasoline the past 2 years and my BMW runs
just as good as the day I bought it. Like one of the
members stated, this 5w20 grade is only used over here.

Note to self: Unlike this fellow's Mazda, those '08 Hondas apparently took to 5w30 like ducks to water!

Note:the 5w30 would work just fine for folks who drive an appliance, and not really concerned about how it revs.

I can't say in terms of mpg, but in terms of a lively, rev happy engine, that will be lost. The engine will rev slower (as in 25% slower) than with 5w-20. That has been my experience.

LMAO, was thinking the same thing. If this man's math was right, my 3.5HP briggs wouldn't even RUN with the 5w50 Mobil 1 it has in the pan, LOL!!!
 
I guess it depends on the engine. Why do you have to equate my one experience with one very specific Duratec v6 engine as a general blanket statement?
 
and by the way, don't forget for any reason there is any engine component failure and they find out that you used 5w30 instedof 5w-20, you are f%^&d
 
Even if they do a used oil analysis, most 5w30s shear to a 20 weight so how would they know? I still wonder how many people have actually had warranty issues with oil weight. I had a warranty repair on my Dodge done this past week and not one person said a word about what oil I would and why I use 0w30.

Because my experience with Modulars doesn't mirror it in any way shape or form.
 
Not at all, tell that to the numerous car dealership departments that use 5W/10W-30's on the vehicles that are serviced their .

Also I agree a higher viscosity oil could cause more drag, the overall formulation of the motor oil would be a more defining factor on frictional loses, that being said 25% loss from a quality and certified oil in relation to another. I can not buy that statement for a dollar.
 
WOW, a maybe 3cST difference in oil viscosity caused a 25% loss in revving ability??? Oil pressure must to have jumped up to 200psi or so... I've never encountered anything even remotely similar, glad my vehicles have a real engine...
 
Depends on what you drive. A high low end torque engine might not feel it. But an engine designed for output at high revs 3k-5k, it is very noticeable.
