Usefulness of running radiator fans after shutdown?

If you're standing outside the car, by the driver's door, the fan comes on, and you feel heat, it's doing something useful. Arguing about if it's "radiator heat" not "engine heat" is fun but it'll help cool the average underhood temp down for an engineered reason. Maybe saving the turbo, maybe the battery. I like the idea of it getting rid of the "hot engine smell", PCV fumes or whatever.
