This is from last year, I tried to use shears to open it then, but it has the toughest crimp seam I've ever seen. It was my motivation to buy the Longacre, lol.

Last year I used a Wix and Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W-40 and he's still riding on that.

He's due again and it's getting an STP blue can and STP HM Synthetic 10W-30 whenever he stops by.

Its guts look extremely similar to a Toyota (Denso) cartridge. Among other things, that means there probably was no tooling cost to switch to making cartridges for some models. (Obviously excluding changes to the engines)

The element is exactly the same as the OEM Yota cartridge filters (04152-YZZA1). I cut open brand new 90915-YZZD1 and 90915-YZZD3 and the elements are the same, glass fiber reinforced paper made by Denso Thailand. Sorry I didn't have any pictures of them.

^^ My 04152-YZZA6 cartridge is apparently also identical, except (I assume) being smaller. I didn't realize they were glass-reinforced. Yet still have the highly mediocre efficiency widely rumored for all Toyota OE-style filters?

Yes. Not so obvious in the photograph, but on the filter you can see a plug of resin (or glue, or whatever they call it) at the end of each pleat to block oil from bypassing around the end of the pleat. I looked at another brand of filter that was superficially similar in design, but far less "meticulously" glued. Not only was the raised center ring of resin (which should seal against rigid flat metal ends of the housing) lumpy, but also the tiny plugs needed at the ends of individual pleats apparently were non-existent. I wondered how they get by with that!

Thanks roofless, I needed that. TMC is a big company with very good engineers and decades of experience building very reliable vehicles. If it's good enough for Toyota, it's good enough for hosteen.
