The fear of sugar is unwarranted if sensible amounts are consumed. The glycemic index, which denotes a measure of effect of how fast glucose is released into the bloodstream, is more important than the carb content of a food. A banana has a fairly low glycemic index and even most diabetics can eat them in moderation.

Not all fruits are loaded with sugar. Tomatoes and cherries have a very low glycemic index.

Apples are very good for you, also because of the high pectin content, but non-organic apples are loaded with pesticides and coated with questionable resins and waxes. If you peel an apple, you throw out most of the nutrients with the peel.

Bananas are, of course, good for you. They have lots of potassium (when ripe) & are good for pre-workout food (or post-). We tend to get too hung up on stuff in the "wrong" category a lot of times.

Why we need the government wasting money to tell the population what to eat is just a symptom of how ignorant and mentally broken we are. It does not matter if it's a pyramid or plate or a pile of Cheetos.

I want my change back.

More and more people in the US can not even afford.........or let me rephrase that: their priorities aren't in order because of their incomes, to even try and eat a healthy balanced diet.

The USDA food guidelines are like the war on drugs. Total waste.
