Upgrading to a 1000 gal propane tank

I purchased and installed a used 1000 gal tank 20 years ago. Best investment I made. It paid for itself the 1st year. Being able to go out on the free market and shop propane prices (at least in my area) was huge. Initially I had a rented 500 gal tank buried that came with the house. That company's prices were outrageous. They started playing games to fill you in the dead of winter when prices were the highest. After my consumption fell below the contract they sent me a nasty letter. I replied to come dig it up, or give a price to buy it. They quoted $800 so I bought it. I fill the 1000 gallon in May-July when prices are low and it lasts me all year. I used the 500 as a reserve and to heat my garage.

Wow that is an awesome deal, 1500 gallons of capacity? I am jealous!!

My company has a lock in price of $1.89 for this winter, I have to buy 600 gallons. I'm on the fence and need to research pricing more.

I saw a used 3000 gallon on on Facebook Marketplace. You could use it for your own home energy needs and also fill BBQ tanks on the side.

We own our in-ground 1K tank as well, fill it in July/Aug when prices are the lowest and I can shop around.

That was 20 years ago, but still a good deal even adjusted for inflation. I bought an in-ground 1K last year and the tank was 3750 but the anode bags were 200 each (x2) and it was 600 (or maybe 800 can't recall) to bury it. Then I paid 2.80 a gallon to put 800 gallons in it.
