You can get a 2013 200 Limited with the leather interior, heated seats, 730NAV, blue tooth,17 x6.5 alloys, 3.6 6 spd, sunroof all the airbags, TPMS, etc for 21500. they sticker for 27K but with rebates anyone can buy one of these. No corrolla, accord, camry is going to give you that kind of value.

I plan to use depreciation and the current incentives on new models as my reasoning to get them to come down in price. If they bite, fine, if not, oh well.

I'd keep an open mind, see what kind of deal can be wrangled on a 2013 before making an offer on the 2012, keep that as the fallback position..

Also, see if there are any new 2012 leftovers around the area.

As mentioned, they are supposedly dealing on the '13's and with incentives it could make for an attractive deal on brand new car in your choice of color and options.

VNTS,

That would be a tremendous deal, one which I would jump on in a heart beat, sadly, I cannot find anything close to that in my area.

If you could find a listing like that in the MA area with a link, I would be forever grateful, and on my way to purchase it right now.

Thanks!

Took a gander in your neck of the woods, pretty easy, at least they list same range as in my area, remember when you buy chryslers you dont get ripped MSRP, usually invoive less rebates, so you get good deals. Note I dont live in MA so I cant comment on the dealers, but look around. My localCJD store has em in that range, marked on the cars. Of course when I buy cars I pay cash no trade so I dont have all the hastle of negotiating for the trade in which is usually the sticking point. My MIL paid like 18K for a Corrolla in 08, I just rolled me eyes when she told me that, which was sticker, I told my wife she should be throwing up in her mouth for that kind of deal!

Thanks! I found a gorgeous one from another dealer in the area for $21.5k, fully loaded, Black with the beige interior. I'm going after work today, I hope it doesn't sell between now and then (I can't imagine in today's weather many people are looking at cars).

I hope it works out, thanks a ton for pointing me in this direction. On a new car, I'll try to push 13k for my trade. I think this would be worth the money.

I disagree with some of the comments about the bad interior. I feel the 200 has a quality interior for the pricepoint. Nice materials and very slick designs inside that car. It has a very "one of a kind" feel in my opinion.

Only suggestion is to keep a look out for some deals running on new models. I was cross shopping and saw the 200 S with all those options minus the sunroof for about $20k. Killer deal at that price point.

Yes

that is one thing you find with a Chrysler poor resale, but take the savings up front, and drive it into the ground, with good PM of course. you always come out ahead this way.
If your going to trade cars in frequently then it probably isnt your best choice.

The only thing scaring me is the depreciation on these cars is pretty bad, esp. compared to the Corolla.

I don't know if you've ever owned a black car, I have and will never do that again. Next to impossible to keep clean for any length of time, northeast winters, forget about it.

You wash and wax and polish one day, then lightest rain shower comes along and its nothing but water stains, dust and dirt. Imperfections in the paint are very noticeable as time goes by. A few years down the road the car begins to look very shabby.
Same goes for light colored interiors, but at least with the 200 they had the good sense to use black carpeting.

Get the light blue, white or some other light color, you'll be glad you did and won't be one of the million black cars on the road.

Don' worry about depreciation, if you get a good deal up front it all equals out in the end, provided you don't plan to trade in for a while.

I recall seeing quite a few 200's and Avengers on the lot at Central D-C-J-R-F...they're on route 1 on the Norwood-Canton line, across the street from Burger King at the north end of the Automile.

Also...the cream-colored interior just makes me wince. IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks a ton for your input, I visited the dealership after work yesterday. I test-drove a "similar" one, as the car I wanted was out in the "stock yard" or something...

Anyway, the Pentastar feels nice (the car is a bit heavy), and while it rockets, it isn't quite as fast and peppy as I was expecting, due to the weight. Visibility was poor as well, and the interior wasn't as high quality as I was expecting/hoping.

Nevertheless, we ran some numbers, and the difference came to 9k. For that much money, I'd be better off paying my student loans, etc... The car was nice, but was not worth that much of a difference. I may look into the 16" wheels for the Corolla down the road, because other than the highway, I can live with everything else about the car (the acceleration is OK enough for what I need).

So in short, the difference between trade and the selling price (while very tempting for a $28k sticker price), was simply not worth it. While its a nice car, it definitely is a bit suspect when a car is marked down nearly $7k brand new, before they even sell it to you. With a redesign around the corner, I worry too much about depreciation.

Thanks again everyone for your input and help, and I hope this thread can serve as information for people who Google the 200 in the future.

I think you made the right decision. I do like the looks of the Avenger and 200. They have a decent drivetrain. However, they never get much love in the industry. They typically come in dead last in comparisons, and reviews are never favorable. I would look at a Fusion. It's worth the extra $.

so a used 2 yr old Corrolla is worth 12,500 ??

I'm not sure I'd consider this deal to be an upgrade.
I'm not a big Toyota fan, but the Corolla is known to be a reliable and long-lived car.
I think the 200 is priced a little high for a used example of a model that isn't exactly flying off the lots.
If you really like the 200, I'd get some serious email pricing on a new one.
You'd at least get a new, unmolested car.
Why would a 2012 with 1900 miles be sitting on a dealer's used car lot?
What happened to this car?
Don't rely upon Carfax to tell you, either.
My advice would be to walk away quickly.
Fix the Corolla's suspension issues with better tires and maybe better shocks.
Check a dedicated site for tips on what and how to upgrade.
