I own two early ecotec cars, mine is a 03 saturn ion, the misses drives a 03 pontiac sunfire.
I changed the oil in the pontiac last night, and the O-ring on the oil cap was very brittle, and cracked. We just bought this car, someone must have gorilla'ed on the cap, damaging the ring.
Anyways, I had to take an extra trip out to carquest to get their 9 dollar oil filter, because it had an o-ring in the box..
When I got it back together the car kept leaking oil from the oil filter area.
It ended up taking a call to the dealer, they sell a $10 kit that includes a new updated oil filter cap, with ring installed, and a nice filter attached to that.
The new part is a Delco PF458G, and the updated cap has a rounded top instead of the angular top, they also improved something inside the cap to help with pressure.
If you have a newer car, you probably already have the new style cap. But if you have an early one, you might want to buy the updated cap/filter combo from the dealer on your next oil change.
