Update on my doctors exam.

So after trying to get ahold of somebody at the doctors office so I could clarify what the doctor wanted done I finally decided to just schedule the test he wanted done since nobody would answer my question. Anyways, I get to the ultrasound place and she goes what are you have problems with today and I say well the doctor says I have a hernia. She goes oh well the doctor didn't mention anything about that in my notes, but we can check for that too. REALLY??? What I was trying to clarify was if he wanted the ultrasound for the hernia or to check for testicular cancer which he already checked for in the office.

I think my other thread had too many unnecessary details confusing people, so I started this one instead.
 
Maybe I'm just out of shape and need to slowly start lifting things again and quit being paranoid.
 
Ultrasound and X-Ray techs can see much more than they are allowed to discuss with you. My SIL is one, they are trained to avoid answering questions or showing any emotions.

If you have a hernia and the doctor didn't ask them to inspect...if you get this investigated & talked about by the tech, it was done - off the record IMHO.

She didn't say if I did or not though, but she checked.

Yep, they are not a doctor and simply tell the patient their doctor can review and make diagnoses.

I hope you are feeling better.
 
So, you had an ultrasound of the boys to check for cancer?

I'm so confused. What test did the Dr. order?
 
Yes for testicular cancer. That's why I'm confused too. If everything felt fine then why bother with an ultrasound? My question is why does he not seem worried about the hernia? If I remember he said it was small so maybe that's why? I never did get to clarify that.

Due to so many lawsuits and malpractice allegations, Doctors are forced to run many many extra tests that they really feel are unnecessary, just so they can cover themselves legally. Being a young man like you are, I am sure they want to be extra careful anyway, for your benefit. With geriatric patents, they are less likely to take so many extra precautions.

Its hard to do, but try not to stress. I was misdiagnosed twice, and I underwent expensive and invasive tests for nothing more than a false alarm. I expended a lot of worry for nothing. Try to chill.

You got that right. I had a pain in the same place as my appendix. Dr. sent me to ER. Did a CT scan. Showed appendix was fine but they saw some stuff on lungs and liver and wanted an MRI. MRI showed liver and lung were ok but saw what looked like cancer on my spine. They inject radioactive isotopes in me and take pictures. They performed a nuclear bone scan and said they wanted to do a another more complex test. They went as far as to perform a SPECT/CT on me on a Friday. The brochure in the waiting room said SPECT/CT can show your doctor the exact location and size of your cancer tumors. Pretty scared I was. The tech said they'd read the pictures and give the results to my Dr by Monday. And he told me to "have a good weekend". Hmmm, didn't like the way he said that. Like it was my last weekend as a free man. Phone rings at 8:50pm that night but I missed the call. Listen to the message from Dr. "We have the results of your test. Please call us." I call back but no answer at the Dr. office. It was not a good weekend. Dr office is open on Saturday but the person that can tell me the results won't be in until Monday. Call at 9:05 Monday morning and they tell me everything is good.

Defensive medicine at its finest.
 
I wonder if they use the same machine on a guys balls as they do on some lady's pregnant belly. Couldn't help but wonder. Lol

That and the fact that all that expensive imaging pulls in a LOT of revenue. Medical costs now are just ridiculous.

I'd bet they do.
 
It's the same machine, but likely they use different probes for the different situations of the size of the target and distance to it.
