I just know that my Subaru runs quieter with PUP.
I mean significantly quieter especially on cold starts. I’ve ditched using Subaru oil … nothing special about that. I’ve tried multiple brands. It’s nice to have all this documentation but my proof is that the boxer engine loves this oil. To me quieter is better.
Positives are that it's not too expensive so you can top off for not too much when you start burning oil. And VRP will be there waiting for you for when the burning gets too burdensome.

It’s natural to think of quieter being better, but it’s not sound logic. Basic dinosaur Castrol 20w50 will quiet an engine, but you don’t want to run that any Subaru.

I too found that PUP works just fine, and nice and quiet in my 2024 cross trek with a box head engine, use 0w-20 in winter and 5w-30 in summer months. the oil consumption is much better too.
