A main selling point on an oil analysis service these days would be the turn around time.I do not think it's his misunderstanding, but him marketing UOA services he sells.

I agree with you, but I understand why it happens. Chances increase exponentially once you get past the first page of discussion.Of course, but here, it's a technical forum and this guy is presenting some technical data, and folks comment about his lip, seriously? Kind of goes with the whole thing you mom used to tell you...."if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it".
I don’t think it’s so grim. I look at it this way, if you’re interested in wear metal ppm per 1000 miles and you run an oil 10k miles, you’ve tested that interval 10 times and the used oil analysis is going to give you and average wear over those 10 experiments run in order. For all the folks that post amazing long-run UOAs...they are actually meaningless then?
I don't think a single person here, meeting LSJR, would say "Hey LSJR, nice to meet you, tell me why you haven't gotten that thing on your lip fixed?". Classic social media here, folks will say all sorts of things they would never say to someone's face...oh sorry, I forgot, BITOG isn't social media or a "cess pool" as a certain person here calls it regularly....I agree with you, but I understand why it happens. Chances increase exponentially once you get past the first page of discussion.
Neither do I/agree with you. I don't think we need that level of detail here but I see it all the time on this forum - "not enough data points" but then in the next sentence "that UOA looks great"...can't have it both ways. The UOAs are useful to develop trends/what is normal (understanding the data density and within the accuracy and precision of the testing we are discussing in another active thread today), oil condition, and to spot large mechanical issues.I don’t think it’s so grim. I look at it this way, if you’re interested in wear metal ppm per 1000 miles and you run an oil 10k miles, you’ve tested that interval 10 times and the used oil analysis is going to give you and average wear over those 10 experiments run in order.
As long as you’re convinced the wear isn’t accelerating over time from contaminants building up or a fundamental breakdown of the oil, it’s safe to look at a 5k or 10k run that way. Yes it’s one UOA measurement but the significance comes from the long duration you’ve run the experiment.
Additive clash could be a thing, running an oil multiple times in a row would help you feel confident that isn’t happening. I don’t think we’re worried too much about the oil itself having manufacturing variation.
Knowing what the lab measurement error is would be nice, I don’t think any of the commonly used labs publish that. If you’re following a test standard and you’re using a certified lab you can use the standards maximum acceptable measurement error.
I do not think half the people here who disagree with him on technical points of oil discussion would say it to his face either.I don't think a single person here, meeting LSJR, would say "Hey LSJR, nice to meet you, tell me what you haven't gotten that thing on your lip fixed?". Someone should just leave him a comment on his last video...."Hey Lake, we have really enjoyed [argued about] your videos over on BITOG but several members have noted something on your lip, can you get that looked at? Thanks in advance, your friends on BITOG."I had a hard time finding his lip issue. I'm sure he's aware, and if he isn't he will be soon with all the mentions of it here. Hopefully it isn't anything serious.
I didn't think it was funny, but your idea has merit. Since I don't have a YouTube account and have never commented on a YouTube video maybe you can do it.Someone should just leave him a comment on his last video...."Hey Lake, we have really enjoyed [argued about] your videos over on BITOG but several members have noted something on your lip, can you get that looked at? No thanks, I don't have all these issues with him or his videos but all the commenters that do can go for it. I comment on his videos already but of course not about his personal appearance, voice, or general mannerisms...about the technical bits.I didn't think it was funny, but your idea has merit. Exactly. Quit zooming in on the "cold sore"In a perfect world the growth on his lip should not matter but he presents his face to the public in every video. It is like watching or talking to someone with a large hairy mole on their face or a lazy eye, it will attract your gaze regardless. It does not help that it is a natural inclination of all humans to look at someones lips when they talk.
Not only are they oil experts, but now practicing dermatology.I do not think half the people here who disagree with him on technical points of oil discussion would say it to his face either.
BITOG is a funny place. Nothing is ever settle on a clear consensus and darlings of the oil world rise and fall out of favor here constantly.
Crazy stuff. Not only are they oil experts, but now practicing dermatology.
OK, someone mentioned possibly skin cancer. I thought that was genuine and sincere, and certainly something to be concerned about. I was alerted about it, heeded the advice to have it checked, and that's how I found out I had it. Perhaps that person can comment on YouTube and let him know. Hopefully it is a cold sore, I'm not a doctor, just repeating what someone else wrote. No thanks, I don't have all these issues with him or his videos but all the commenters that do can go for it. I comment on his videos already but of course not about his personal appearance, voice, or general mannerisms...about the technical bits.
“Thumper’s Rule” from the Disney movie Bambi.Of course, but here, it's a technical forum and this guy is presenting some technical data, and folks comment about his lip, seriously? Kind of goes with the whole thing you mom used to tell you...."if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it".
Funny how?"Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face"
What movie?
That’s why I have always loved using Wearcheck for my UOAs. When I was working, my company was just 5 minutes away from the Burlington Wearcheck office so I would drop off my samples there in person. The typical turnaround time for me to get my results was about 48 hours! A couple of times I had my results online in just 24 hours! It’s been a while since I have done a UOA but I will get back into it again maybe next year.A main selling point on an oil analysis service these days would be the turn around time.
