At OCIs over 13k, the PUP was still in grade and had plenty of reserve TBN. At the 17.1k sample, there was some slight oxidative thickening but TBN was still OK and insolubles were 0.2 IIRC… talking with HPL he said this is normal, and would personally determine condemnation of the service interval when the oil crosses into the next higher grade if TBN and flash point were acceptable, so if I had kept the car I probably would have pulled back to a 15k OCI.

Obviously trends tell the rest of the story of how the oil is doing, and even on the 17k run, iron wear was only 1.1ppm/1k mi. I’m not saying every engine can run 15k on PUP, but I am saying I’m at least as correct as the people who’ve never used PUP yet claim the oil is not capable of extended UOAs, since I ran 8 or 9 different UOAs of increasing distances on it to generate data and come to my conclusions.

I proved to you guys years ago based on UOAs that PUP was better than the critics said it was, so it’s quite bittersweet to see some of you fawn all over today like there’s some magical revelation thanks to LSJ 🤣

I went 17k+ on PUP about 4 years ago and some folks said I was crazy and that PUP wasn’t fit to be a long drain oil…
You proved it to me with that over 15k run in your ford which I cut the Napa platinum filter open and saw the cleansing/cleaning 😍

Lake Speed Jr not only owns Speediagnostix but is also VP at Total Seal. He does tech talks at racing events across the country as well as a video podcast called Hidden Horsepower where he, Don McAskill, Joe Castillo, Billy Godbold, Benjamin Strader, Matt Hartford, and many other big names in high end engine building and racing dig deep into technical topics. Their most recent one was a really good one about exposing the flaws in A-B-A testing. He's very well versed in what he does. If he advises something, you can take it to the bank.

Here's the data from earlier, sorry. 2011 Fusion, 2.5 MZR, 6F35. I'd say there's evidence that Pennzoil may actually be under-marketing PUP, given what their competitors claim these days...

LSJ also did some work for/with the Joe Gibbs Corp and Driven Racing motor oils a few years back. He definitely has been around n involved in racing and street application lubrication testing for quite some time.
