I used to use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, but stopped due to the fact that it's specs show it's always on the thin side of it's grade, and don't really think it would be good for heavy duty use. I prefer higher HTHS / MOFT, as that equates to better protection.

Just google this: HTHS wear graph

I stopped buying it when the price went up. I got several jugs for about $23/jug. Lately, it’s over $40. $55/jug on Amazon today.

5W30. I use it in the Tundra. Who cares if it’s “a little thin” when the truck specs 0W20 in the first place?

But at $55/jug, there are better oils out there.
The three jug pack is $72.

Right, at PUP's current prices, it would be better to get HPL oil and get PAO + AN + Ester, instead of getting a group III+ GTL oil like PUP.

How much better are the group III+ GTL oils like PUP versus a regular group III petroleum based full Synthetic?

Just over $24 per 5 quart jug is not expensive.

What is the HTHS of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30?

To that point, I just ordered three cases of HPL. One engine oil, one transmission, one gear oil. And I already had a case and a half of their engine oil on hand…

Pennzoil hasn't published HTHS for any of their oils for quite some time. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 is A5/B5 rated so somewhere =>2.9 and
Yes, based on it's low viscosity @100C, am guessing it's HTHS will be on the low side 2.9 or 3.0. The Pennzoil Euro L oil, viscosity = 3.5 as its rated at ACEA C3. But it's Mercedes Benz/ Bmw / Volkswagon certifications are from 2012 with a -12 after the certifications, so it appears Pennzoil may not really be supporting their Euro oils as much as other companies like Mobil 1 with their ESP which has all the latest Euro -21 year certifications from what I've seen.

Not sure what Pennzoil's plans are with their Euro Oils. Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 was just reformulated to meet API SP very recently.

ESP vs PUP vs Euro LX... please! ;)

Why? PUP is primarily an API SP / ILSAC GF-6 rated oil. PUP 5W-30 happens to meet ACEA A1/B1 and A5/B5 which are pretty low bar Euro specs.

Not sure why Lake Speed Jr. wants to run PUP in his Porsche. No clue what Porsche he has but pretty sure PUP doesn't have the certification. I think he's muddied the waters saying he will try PUP in his Porsche.

PUP contains an ester (probably Borate ester).

Gr3+ oil perform more like PAO.

Why do you think he'd run the 5w30 rather than the 0w40 in his Porsche?
