I really dislike that the automakers make all their cars look the same. It seems each carmaker has a "face" they put on all their cars. Every BMW, GMC, Porsche....all look the same when seen from head on. I remember when the models of a carmaker where all individual and different. I get it is for brand recognition but I wonder if anything else is driving this.

Sure, if Gm made their corvette look like a Ferrari, I would not like that.....oh wait, they did.....yep still dont like it. But then again, Ferrari made a Corvette look a like aswell.

Because safety regulations made innovations impossible

The model 3 was kind of inspired as they didn't throw a bunch of fake grills and vents on it.
Pedestrian crash standards and aerodynamics and all SUVs kind of lead most looking the same I guess?
Mazda's sharp hood line grill was interesting.
I dunno, I liked Subaru's approach in the late 20 teens, all their vehicles looked pretty much the same but just slightly different sizes and shapes. They figured out some styling queues that worked and went with it, which works for their buyers.

EU pedestrian impact regulations have had an outsized influence on front end design. Low volume sellers like Ferrari and Lambo can avoid them but everyone else has to play by the rules.

I'm not a fan of the new Toyota / Lexus front grille design, just too much gaudy look to it. BMW on the other hand still sticks with that pig nose shaped front grille for whatever how long its been going which makes it easily to identify that its a BMW.

Only Dodge seems to have iconic looks that separate it from other economy brands.

The future is a conglomeration of blob cars. May as well have the same exact shape with stickers to differentiate them.

The movie Minority Report had it right.

When has BMW not done this?

Poor example IMO.

Nothing is as ugly as some of the new BMW front ends

Lexus screaming “here hold my beer!”
The coffin-nosed Infiniti QX SUV from 10 years ago would like a word. It tried being both muscular and round at the same time. Both first and second gen body styles. They look like a Sentra that stifled a sneeze and held in a fart. The Z63 style (23+) is weird, too, but not stunningly ugly like before.

Exactly. BMWs have always had a recognizable "face" that differentiates them from most others. Now, lots of theirs have a "face" that other manufacturers would dare not duplicate nor are they ones that even a mother would love.

Hold up.

Dodge literally makes three vehicles: Hornet, a boring re-badged Alfa crossover, Durango, which hasn't had a refresh since the Obama Administration, and Charger, whose re-style has gone over about as well as a wet fart.

Please point out the iconic looks in the Dodge lineup.
