unifilter any good?

I always got good results with the Comptech filters in my Hondas , which were made by Uni. Good silicon numbers in my oil analysis reports. Only problem with them is you need to clean them more often than other filters, something like every second oil change, which is about 6000 miles on average. When they are clean, oiled and maintained properly they work really well. I hated cleaning them though.

I have reviewed several oil analysis results for UNI equipped vehicles (including spectro, particle count and ferrographies) and the results were superb. Very high quality manufacture, much better than other foams I have seen.. Excellent.

Thank you George, that is the kind of info I need. I want to make sure I am making a step up and not sideways. Any other proven winners in a cone shape filter?
Like Idrinkmotoroil, I use a Comptech/Uni on my Honda K20A3 engine and have gotten very good oil analysis results with it. I clean it every 10,000 miles and I doubt that I need to do it that often in my area.
I also put a Unifilter on my motorcycle and will have comparative UOA results with the stock paper soon.

I also have a Comptech/Uni filter on my Acura and am very happy with the product. I'm about to reach 10K miles and need to clean it soon.
For you other guys that have Comptech/Uni filters. I just want to know where you guys buy your cleaning kit from. I can get it for $10.95+ shipping, but maybe you guys are getting better deals.

I used Simple Green to clean mine once, but it didn't work very good. I've used "Shout" with much better results, and it's much cheaper also.
A while back I emailed Unifilter and they are very confident their filtration capabilities are second to none. I used a Unifilter Rampod on my car and I have to say Im very impressed. Their Rampods are of excellent design and the oil is nice and tacky, which will hold the dirt. Most rally cars use Unifilter in Australia. I dont think you can ask for a better testimonial than that..
Also the bell housing that attaches to the MAF is excellent.
Btw, you should only use mineral turps to clean the foam. Nothing else!!!

I have been running Uni air filters in my '97 Honda 750 since it was new. Only because OEM paper filters cost over $40. I never had a problem using them.
The old ACCEL "power filters" were dual stage foam air filters made buy Uni-filter. I like mine very much and thought it did a very good job filter. During dyno testing we proved that it hasn't resisting air flow. I have also tried both the K&N and the newer ACCEL Kool Blue cotton gaze units. I really don't think either does a very good job filtering, although they don't seem to restrict air flow what so ever. I also don't like how the cotton fibers tend to "fuzz" after they have been washed.
Personally I am back to using a Purolator paper air filter and change it every 3K miles (at the same time I change my oil). I have never liked the fact that any of these oiled air filters could end up depositing their oil on the wires of a Ford MAF sensor, resulting in inaccurate readings.

Is their foam wrap the same foam as the full uni-filters? I've got a K&N tapered cone filter, with the K&N wrap around that.
Would the Uni wrap be better?
What about the difference in the oils? How are the oils compared to K&N, Amsoil, and Uni?

Tech don't use K&n filter oil it's too thin for any foam pre-cleaner to be useful. K&N's pre-f. is probably biult on the same premise as there other products just flow ? air quality.

Does a foam filter require more maintance then a cotton gauze or paper type? Seems to me it would filter almost too well, and require cleaning rather frequently...

I've been trying to get UNI to send me their ISO 5011/SAE J726 test results, but they are silent. So what's behind their "confident" stance?
I do like UNI's filter oil, very tacky. Could it be Lucas oil stabilizer in a silver bottle? Between your fingers, the oil acts very Lucas-like.

Silent no more, but not sure this message really says anything I can actually use:
"Hi,Yes, We have done many test over our 30 plus yrs. in the filter business. As for test results for the cone type filters we do not have any test data on that filter. We can design our filter's depending on conditions... I.E. off-road, street, etc. by changing foam porosity, thickness, etc. We are the O.E.M manufacture for Honda of America for there atv's. Honda does not want a filter that will fail and have to be replacing engines so they rely on UNI FILTER to do so. Also Harley, Bombardier, Arctic cat, etc.
We do not agree with the SAE J726 TEST. The test loads the filters with 30 grams of dirt first ... then they start taking readings after all the holes are plugged in a paper filter. No measurement on how much of that first 30 g. passed through the filter. "NOT REAL WORLD" The test needs to start with a new filter straight from the box, "real world" as a consumer does. When the test is done in that manner as we have had them do, the UNI foam filters win hands down!
