Thats not what I'm reading here. He said Castrol the bulk of its life. Starting 35k ago he has used MMO, posted a Shell Rotella T-5 UOA which indicates a change in oil. The condition at the time of Castrol is not represented in those pictures.


Yep you're right. We can read into it whatever we like. Maybe the MMO cleaned it up, take your pick. I don't think the engine was ever dirty.

Castrol the bulk of its life didn't ruin it as some would love to read.

Don't you have to pull the valve cover anyway to do periodic valve adjustments on that car? I thought the old F-series engines called for 30K adjustments?

What with the holiday weekend I'm quite late to respond, but yes, the manual calls for inspecting (adjusting if necessary, of course) the valve height every 30k miles. Still, 30k miles is about 2.5-3 years for me, so it'll be a while.

I recently sold an 94 accord I had as a commuter with just over 300k and it looked pretty much identical to yours with only cheap conventional oils. Its hard to kill those engines. Here is something you may find helpful and a common issue with the f22.

I have a question, for those more familiar with this engine than I am. It looks to have Honda's typical SOHC VTEC, with three intake rocker arms (two outer ones for small-cam operation and one center one for big-cam operation) and two exhaust rocker arms (one for each exhaust valve, and no exhaust VTEC).

Looks typical, except for the far left intake rocker arm of each cylinder set doesn't have a roller follower. All of the rocker arms have roller followers except for that one. Why would that be?

I know this may be a bit off topic, but since others are showing theirs I will show mine.

This is with 166,000 miles and on my fifth 25,000 mile OCI using Amsoil AME 15w-40, only one full flow oil filter (amsoil EaO or Donaldson Endurance) and no bypass on my 04 Cummins.

Looks like brand new engine ! Amsoil and 1 filter for 25k miles OCI and engine this clean is amazing.
