Under-Hood Lubes

Cables and the wheels the cables ride on at the throttle-body? This one gets me, silicone spray has too much carrier, petro or lithium grease seems like it would be too messy and attract dirt.. Anyone mess with those cables/wheels?

Lithium for the hinges, I suppose, and lots of di-electric grease for the battery and whatnot, right? Someone told me a good longterm move is to disco all the connectors you can reach, pack em with di-electric grease, and reconnect..

True? Good for the long-term?

Molycote 33 is specially made for this application. It's a silicone grease with thickener. The product data sheet specifically mentions automotive wire cable application.

Don't use this for underhood connectors, use it only as a lube. I imagine the thickener would preclude good electrical contact.

Most cars now come with the connectors packed with special grease, so it's a good idea!
WD 40 would be safe for the cables/wheels.
Just let it dry a bit before driving through a dust storm.

Yeah, I ran through those on the DowCorning site, and they showed me a bunch of heavy-industrial companies all through Va. that distribute it in huge quantities, big drums, 10 lb. containers and the like. Buy one of those, I'll be making presents of 1/2 lb. containers of MolyCote33 to my fellow BITOGers for Christmas!

I was hoping maybe, for a 6 oz. tube, hehe..

What car is it? FWIW I have never, ever had to lube the throttle cable or hood release cable (just the hood latch). I don't think lubing the throttle cable is a good idea as it will attract dirt. Replace with a new one if it starts binding.
