Check out the news story and video in the link if you haven't already seen/heard about it. A couple of High School football players blindside a Ref from behind. The news story actually says the following [censored] at one point...

"It's not clear from the video whether either player intentionally hit the referee"

is the author, or whatever school official said that to her, INSANE? Those two boys lined that Ref up and purposely assaulted him. The 1st one runs up to the Ref, looking at him the entire time so it isn't an accidental hit, and then takes him out. The 2nd player then runs in and dives onto the downed Ref and drives his helmet into him. Total and complete intentional acts by both.

They should both be arrested and face criminal assault charges and jail time. They could have seriously injured that Ref or even crippled him for life. How they haven't been arrested is beyond me?

Has to be one of the biggest cheap shots I have ever seen. I too get mad at Ref's and feel many are biased or just terrible but that was uncalled for. I don't care if that Ref was costing them the game what those two did is inexcusable and is a crime IMO.

I see no mention in the article of the Police looking into it. Just that the two boys were ejected, have been suspended, and the athletic league is looking into it. Give me a break! Those 2 should never be allowed on the field again - ever. The Police need to get involved as well. No need for any investigation( school - don't mean criminal ). Those boys should be done with football period.

Just ridiculous. It is 100% clear those 2 players lined that Ref up and then lit him up. Anyone who watches that video and says it is unclear needs an eye exam. Sickening!

Even to me who knows nothing about the sport it's clear. It's on video, how can anyone claim that it wasn't intentional? They can't let this go or what does it say about assaulting an official?

They should never be allowed to play again-and IF it comes out they were instructed to do it by a coach, he should be gone forever as well. No room for that kind of behavior!

That quoted comment is right up there with the NBC news producer they interviewed right after the second NYC plane went in on 9/11. She pontificated off the cuff that maybe they were having air traffic control problems.

Maybe these kids were temporarily blinded and needed to find an object to run into to bring back their sight. It just happened to be a ref who had been accused of a previous bad call...but I certainly understand the fear that school officials or the media have about making statements without knowing all the facts.

It doesn't get any more intentional than that. Sadly, those kids are probably the star players on the team, and like every other star athlete they will receive a slap on the wrist. I saw it all too often with players on my college's sports teams.

Referee has already said he wants to press charges (Fox news article). He is waiting for guidance. I interpret that to mean "I will see a lawyer on Tues".

Those "boys" are not yet adults so the only problem here is to figure out what or who caused them to do this and place the blame there. They have counselors, social workers and teachers there to decide where the blame goes. It's a well established industry in place to relieve the parents from having to raise their own children. Getting away with this will prepare them for adulthood.

The NFL will gladly accept dog murderers, people murderers, wife beaters, admitted cheaters, and assorted thugs as long as they can play ball.

If that kind of behavior is acceptable at the highest level of professional football on the planet, expect kids at lower levels to behave accordingly.

Nope, the blame goes on them and them alone. No one can make you blindside someone like that. You have to choose to do it. They need to be held accountable for their actions with jail time.

You're talking "old school" where children were responsible for their actions.

Maybe they had a tough life as a child. Their parents may not have purchased the latest smart phone for them or put them on a restricted data plan. Not being able to text with pictures and video could be considered child abuse of the absolute worst kind. It also could be that the school they attended did not raise them correctly or maybe some authority figure said "NO" to them at one time or another. Horrible traumatic events like these could damage them forever. It's up to the system to assign blame somewhere else so the student does not have to suffer the indignation, guilt and the shame of responsibility and facing the truth.

2nd guy was obviously targeting the Ref after he was already down on the ground. Yeah, both were in on this targeting scheme.

Yep, they still need to be accountable for their actions ... period. Doesn't matter why they did it. Without ramification of action, this whole world would be pure and utter chaos.

Wondering if the Ref made a call on one of them previously in the game that got them ticked off. Still, no way to show their dissatisfaction which what the Ref might have done. Hope they get banned from sports.

He definitely should, and the video will be highly incriminating these little thugs.

Did anyone see the clip on mass media of the black mom saying that we should wait until we understand why those two tackled the ref?!!!!!

Oh, in many states I believe even in TX 17 is considered to be an adult when serious assaults like this are perpetrated.

I think both should be charged with attempted murder, since the helmets could be considered a weapon with an unprotected person being hit.

I want to know are the two players black?
