"Some" do hold oil better than others keeping engine quietier at start up. Just don't run them 50K miles.

What proof is there of that besides "Engines making it to 250K miles and still 'run good' " ... ??

I'm still waiting for someone to post any kind of official testing report that show there is no change in engine wear associated with keeping oil cleaner with better filtration.
Several years ago Donaldson had an article on their page about lower quality filters with glass fiber debris were causing abrasion to engine parts. I'm sure it is still there.
So not just poor filtration but less than clean filters with poor QC.

1) build quality
2) materials quality
3) quality control... quality

But seriously, I would like a filter with very good build quality, high capacity and decent filtration efficiency, for a low price.
