That's bad enough happening in a taxi you don't own. I can't imagine the fun that would be in my personal car.

My daughter attends college in Chicago and uses Uber every day. It is an excellent way to defer the high costs of car ownership in an expensive urban area. If some schmucks don't like the pay....get lost and go find work elsewhere.

Nobody cares about the plight of cab drivers.

Actually, I kind of do, and I have no skin in the game. Chicago cabbies have to fork over hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their medallion from the city and they are subject to certain rules/scrutiny. For Mayor Tiny Dancer (whose brother very conveniently is an investor in Uber) to now give access to the airports to anyone driving for Uber doesn't strike me as reasonable.

But what do I know?

That's their problem. The cab system is Chicago is completely corrupt. I say let uber thrive. Chicago is one huge corrupted mess run by a complete liar and scoundrel. I don't support the corrupt Democratic system or even hold it up as "legitimate".

You just said the government gives Uber "access" to the airport...like the government owns the airport? Boy are you brainwashed. Do you ask Rahm if you are allowed to buy a plane ticket?

Chicago taxis must undergo a 2 week college course and pass an exam. Chicago cab drivers lease the cars from the various taxi companies. I know first hand that real taxi drivers in Chicago pull in $200+ a shift after the lease. Uber drivers do not make the same.

Everybody Ive used has been personable, well-spoken, driving clean cars, and happy with Uber. Its the cabbies who have tried to cut off and give nasty looks to us (seen this in Philly and DC).

Do I really care if someone pukes in the driver's car? If I was taking a cab, would the chance of that be any less/different? Likely not, just an older car, with more wear.

Im generally a fan of Uber. And they do implement demand pricing (encountered this in NYC around Christmas), so it does seem to be the free market working.

That may be a race to the bottom, but it doesnt seem to make anyone on here care when it comes to other things...

You have to have a car no older than 10 years. That would leave out many BITOG members as drivers......

There is a competing service. It is called Lyft..

Uber used to advertise their drivers would make at least $7000 or so, even if they didn't pick up enough fares. What is up with that?

Exactly, I don't think they could get the smell out, thus why they dumped the car.

You can, with a lot of effort, but it's trouble. That's another reason retired CVPIs were very popular taxis. Vinyl seats and rubber floors are easy to clean when someone pukes. If people want to drive cab, go right ahead. It's not like driving taxi, even part time, has monumental barriers to entry. And, if someone does wish to drive cab, there are always shifts all over the place. One can work as few or as many hours as one wishes. I do not miss hauling people around, I tell you that.

The Chicago Department of Aviation seems to think they own O'Hare. Midway as well.

Cab drivers without a medallion will be fine, it is the medallion owners who financed their medallion and needs to make payment who are in big trouble.

Yes, Chicago owns and operates O'Hare.

Something tells me that's not the only reason most of them bought new cars...
