U.S. requires GM to fix headlight glare on 725,000 SUVs

Are you old enough to remember when rear-view mirrors had a little tab which allowed you to tilt the mirror to remove glare?
I'm old enough to remember when rear view mirrors didn't even have a "night" tab or setting. Just had to turn the whole mirror, then readjust it when the light behind subside, lol.

Good. I cannot believe how frickin bright those headlights are. Whenever I have had them come up behind me I have thought why does this guy have his brights on. How and why does GM seem like they constantly screw up some of the most basic of things?

Good. Although there is a Gladiator(?) near me that is the worst, but it’s possible that they have aftermarket lights, he’s annoying in the daytime.
Probably aftermarket LEDs.
You can get factory LEDs on Glads, never noticed them to be overly bright or annoying.
Sometimes folks put a "leveling" kit on their suspension, which raises the front of the truck.
You can see where that takes you.

.Haven't auto-dimming mirrors been standard for almost 20 years?
Never seen one. I don't think our '21 Camry has it? I don't drive it enough to remember. My 10, 19 and 23 year old cars sure don't have it.

Is this one of those features that doesn't work well? Wife says the auto-dimming headlights on her Camry doesn't always recognize other cars. We think it's not capable of dealing with dim incandescent bulbs used in older cars. So I wonder if auto-dimming mirrors are in the category, nice idea but not all that great.

Could be. I've assumed aftermarket, but maybe they have a lift too. I just always high-beam them. I doubt they notice though.

Auto dimming work great but they can't prevent light from being reflected off other interior cabin surfaces.

It's not a stretch to think that gives them satisfaction in knowing they have annoyed another motorist.
I don't high beam for that reason.

The led headlights on my escalade are just asinine to the poor cars in front of me. The low beams are so bright the high beams do almost nothing when I flash them and on their own they're insanely bright. And I can honestly see plenty fine with stabdard halogen sylvanias on my old trucks but without boiling people up. When I go on jogs at night those led lights hurt and those auto high beams are the absolute worst. That's why I disabled the auto high beams on my escalade, I realized how much they suck when people are jogging towards you at night like I do. It's just rude. I wish I could lower the brightness of my low beams a little too.
