Turtle Wax "ICE"

Well, says its a polish. There is nothing about a wax or protection. Hummm.... is it just a polish as Turtle Wax says?

The detailer spray says that it does add some protection.

I bought some but I'm scared to use it. It's not a wax (which is why it's not called "wax"). It has no abrasives or chemical cleaners so its not a polish in the traditional sense. It's a "polish" in that it's a final step protective product without paint cleaning or polishing ability.

Having said that, it looks and feels a lot like silicone oil with a fragrance. I poured some on my hand and ran water on it and the product beaded water. Took a good bit of soap to get it off my skin.

I can't find an MSDS on it but there is nooooooo way I'm using on my truck without knowing what this stuff really is. For now I'll stick with what I know is safe and good for paint.

Might try emailing/calling Turtle Wax, I would guess they could email/fax you one.

might be a good product. one is a liquid polish, the other a spray detailer. says blends silicone and organic polymers. both can be used on rubber and vinyl without staining or residue..neat that it can be applied in the direct sun and a hot surface. ok, who's the first guinea pig?

can't beleive i didn't haul freight to the local auto parts store hunting for this...i'm a huge sucker for anything new, wax wise. garage is full of stuff. for now, i'm keeping with the s-100 for the 2 bikes and the wifes sante fe. i think it's gonna take alot to sway me from that stuff.

I'm tempted to try it. My car has carwash wax on it from a wash a couple of days ago. Does anyone see why this wouldn't go right over it?

I'm going to do the first wax or sealant job on my Solstice this weekend. It is silver. I'm down to two choices, Turtle Wax Platinum, which I know gives a great looking finish, or the new Turtle Wax ICE. Over on Autopia.org, I've heard a couple of good things about the look, and it dresses the plastic and rubber trim as well (although there is not much of that on the Solstice). The only question is durability. The car will see occasional rain, and that's it. Any suggestions before I bite the bullet and make a decision?

If it's a polish, wouldn't you use it first before applying a wax/sealant?

I use klasse AIO first (polish) followed by the glaze sealant (acrylic).

Polish is a term used loosely by OTC manufacturers. In the detailing realm polish does mean an abrasive compound or chemical cleaner that would remove defects from the paint. But the ICE seems more like a sealant than a polish. Maybe they used polish because most OTC buyers won't understand what a sealant is and what its properties are.

I'm not sold on a "wax" or polish that's said to be used on rubber and plastic too.
It doesn't sound like it has abrasives, and it appears that there's two products - a polish and a detailing spray.

I use Maguiar's detailing spray in between waxes, and it's nice. Not sure about that polish though...if anyone gives it a go, please report back.

Indyfan: How do you like your Solstice? I was THIS CLOSE to getting one...

I will say that you can apply klasse to rubber and plastic and it doesn't stain. I believe it says so on the bottle. I get it on everything and just wipe it off. So this isn't anything new.

ICE has no physical abrasives in it. The stuff is almost as clear as water.

If ICE does any paint cleaning, it uses solvents for the job. My feeling is it cleans nothing but instead hides swirls and other defects with some version of silicone oil. That's also what gives it the slick, slippery feel.

The reason you can also use ICE on your rubber and plastic trim is probably the same as using those tire shine products on your car. It's the oily stuff that gives the shine.

^^^ I'm not saying that multi-purpose stuff isn't good, just that I'm not personally sold on those yet.

I'm willing to learn about them and change my mind if it turns out that I'm just being paranoid

Turtle Wax ICE is a sealant made with acrylic polymers..It is in the same catagory as Klasse Sealant and Zaino...I do not know if it has the same durability as them as it is new and not had a long term testing.

It has no cleaners or abrasives...just a petroleum carrier and acrylics...It is not a polish per say..but they call it polish...

it is suppose to have some swirl hiding properties.

I have used it on my frige to see what it looks and feels like...It is very slick and has a deep wet shine to it..

It is sorta like the stuff you put on vinyl floors...Come spring it will get a true test...

The detailer spray is great stuff...I use it now after a wash to get salt off....and it beads like crazy and a great shine and super slick stuff...the rain just rolls off while driving...

do not get this stuff on your windows..it will smear...

Hope this helps....any questions on car products ask...I use alot

I imagine any product that you put on paint that doesn't dry will hide swirls and other light scratching - but that's all it's doing.
I wonder if this stuff attracts/holds more dust?

What do you mean by does not dry....the stuff drys and leaves no oily residue...or oil per say..it is acrylic and polymers...with a flash carrier to dry product when it is applied...it is no way like the tire shine stuff...

all waxes and sealants have a carrier to flash and leave the proprietary product dried on the paint to buff off...

I love products like this! I use Wax-As-U-Dry and similar products that I find at Wal-Mart for use on RV/Marine. I use them right after I wash my vehicles. They always have a just waxed look and feel. I have a 1988 Honda that has seen nothing but PLEDGE furnature polish over the past 18 years. You gotta see this thing! Looks Great!

Of course I only use the best silicones an carnubas on customers cars with a "Quick Detail" type product just before they take delivery.

My customers get what they pay for. They want the best products,(perceived) that I can provide. They want products that last a long time and give the best protection for their MB, BMW, Jag, Lex, Vet, etc...My business is to tub, rub & scrug the dirty, to bring back the neglected, to make my customers smile in their paint...Im so bussy doing for others that I have little time for myself. At one time, these products... "Wax As U Dry", "Quick Detail", "Mist & Wipe", were not available, at least not to my knowlage,(20 & 30 years ago). Now that they are, I love them! But, they don't last or protect any where near as well as silicone,(longevity) or carnuba,(ultimate shine). These quick products are mainly for Show Cars and quick touch ups between waxes. I use them each time I wash my own cars as part of the drying process. They're durability is about 2-3 weeks. If a customer or potential customer come in the shop with a coupon for a 10% discount car wash only, we'll finish the job with one of these products. My personal vehicles look great all the time. Purchaced in large quantities from a Jobber as I do, they are more cost effective. Once in a while I'll do an extra special job on my cars with the good stuff, just not very often because they don't need it due to being taken care of regulary. My kids cars see alot of PLEDGE,(Dollar Store) cause it's fast and cheap. Done correctly, it looks like I spent all day on them when I only spent about 30-45 minutes on them and it really works well especially on flat black,(thats a free tip!).
