Turn compressor pressure switch down?

I recently got a 30 gallon Porter Cable compressor that is identical to the 30 gallon Husky sold at HD. The Porter Cable has its switch set to 155 PSI. The identical Husky is at 135 PSI. Mine didn't cut out at 155 last night according to the gauge. It got cut off manually and then bled down. Am I right in thinking that the pressure switch needs adjusting down?

Either that or the gauge is inaccurate. I don't see a need for much over 120 PSI, personally. Most tools, spray guns, etc. really need to be regulated down anyway.

Ours at work runs over max by 10psig - I don't like standing near it when its that high

plus that last 10 psi seems to take >> 50% of the pump up time.

Id knock it down 15psig.

Could be the gauge. What is the spec for the compressor for the max PSI? I would not run it over that. Obviously you have a regulator so cut it back to 90 PSI or so.

Your tank will hold more air at a higher pressure but the shutoff should be below the max.

Usually when you get above 150PSI its a two stage compressor.

This is a single stage machine. That's why it seems weird to have such a high cutoff. The pump can do up to 175 PSI, so it is safe for it. It does struggle a bit to get that high. It'll get turned down.

What is the tank rated for? I'd lower the switch if 135 is what it's supposed to be.

Note that the pressure switch adjustment may have an anti-tamper screw on it, mine does.

I would not think that unit is rated for 175 but yes u can turn it down if are pressure or added capacity is not needed.
