Turbo additive or no?

Replacing the 2.0TFSI turbo assembly in our 2019 Q5.

The liqui moly turbo additive is advertised as needed to protect the turbo on start up on many sites…

Is this a good choice or should I just dump oil directly into the feed port and prime the oil system by pulling the injector wiring? (Oil change at the same time)

When I replaced the turbo on my truck I simply filled the oil feed hole with fresh 10w40 while spinning the compressor wheel and then filled the oil feed line too, before connecting it to the turbo. As long as you get oil pressure when you first start the engine your new turbo's bearing will be fine. It's not like the turbo is at max. revs or hot when the engine starts so it's oil needs are quite conservative at that time.

Not a turbo specialist but what Daniel327 says seems sound. The oil pump will prime that turbo pretty quick.

There is no reason not to use the LM stuff if you want but in any case fill the turbo with the additive or engine oil and pull the injector harness under the right side of the intake manifold and crank it for 5 seconds x 4 times as not to get the starter hot.

liqui moly sells a pre lube for your muffler bearings.

Never pre lubed replacement turbo's on class 8 trucks I worked on and they only went 400k miles.

I specialized in turbocharged race engines for many years. Not once did I use a dedicated pre-lube. Pour a touch of oil in before startup if you really worry.

Fill the bearing housing like Trav said. Use the same oil that’s in the sump.
