Street Cleaning (tsunami?) every Thursday.

Yeah free car wash every Thursday. If you park your boat there then there no need to worry.

I took a similar picture too, except its a different street (Ortega/48th ave.). I noticed all those streets with that sign are streets that have slight uphill. Most likely you will end up on 19th avenue (busy 3 lane street) and go from there.

Do you know when those signs went up? I have noticed them only recently but my girlfriend says they've been around for a while. She also said she saw a different design.

I don't know exactly when they put those up, I only noticed them no too long ago as well. I happen to see those signs when I was bike riding on 48th avenue rather than Great Highway. My best guess would be around the same time they put that siren near the beach which is likely back in mid to late 2005. If I remember right not every single street near ocean beach has that sign. Haven't seen another kind of sign yet but I'll try to get a pic if I do come across it.

Fortunately Connecticut installed a 118 mile long tsunami dispersement moraine staffed 7x24 by 7 million kind hearted souls. Should there be an "incident" I will run oceanside and salute them, knowing that their lives were sacrificed to save mine

Another tsunami evac route sign near my place:

I think they should have added a great white shark!

A friend from Newport News tells me that Virginia Beach has a really cool "no swearing" sign with the Sgt. Snorkel-style @#?!! swear word symbols with a Ghostbusters-esque line through them. Apparently, swearing in public is illegal. Also, thou shalt not tie thy horse up at the publick water pumpe.

These signs appear on Great Highway since its right by the ocean. If you put a shark in the picture then some people will think no swimming shark danger. There is also a siren at the beach parking lot. Not sure if its for tsunami warning only.

Swimming along Ocean Beach is strongly discouraged. The riptides are treacherous and some clumsy tourists drown every other year. I swim out there at least 3 times a week year round. One day a shark might eat me.

My place is located right inside the inundation zone and right by the tsunami evacuation route. I'm thinking of keeping a life raft tied to the roof.

I've never run for high ground -- or run anywhere, or gotten up, or even left the house because of an earthquake. I'm less than 20 feet above sea level. If a tsunami comes the alarm system will (hopefully) sound in time. If I feel a quake I check the USGS website for updates and watch out for news alerts. During day time I might look out of the window or go up on the roof. The SA fault runs right in front of my place out in the ocean. If that fault blows I'll be a goner because there's no time to get to high ground in time. I'll never make it out of the garage in time, and I sure as [censored] can't run up the hill in time.
