My wife’s Honda Fit takes most of the year to hit just 3000 miles. Is there a benefit to use a full synthetic filter like the Carquest EP or just the premium style. I’m not a huge fan of the silicone base gasket to be honest
The reason I’m not a fan of the silicone base gasket is that I find, in my experience, that they weep slightly. Yes I tighten them down completelyA few weeks ago I stocked up on Carquest Premium 84356 filters for my 2025 Pilot. It's more than capable of 10k OCIs, if you have a propensity to run them that long. I usually don't, but recently switched to HPL Premium Plus PCMO, so will probably be extending the intervals now that the engine has over 10k miles on it.
Some of the Carquest Premium filters are made in Vietnam and others China. The only way to tell is open each box and look on the filter. Many believe either are just as good as the other, but I cherry-picked the made in Vietnam because I preferred the silicone, P-style gasket. Since you don't want the silicone gasket, get the ones made in China.
I'll need to watch out for weeping, as I'm currently running Pentius PLXL7317s with the standard nitrile gaskets. Hope I don't regret choosing the silicone gaskets, as I bought a dozen. I've been doing oil changes a long time and see absolutely 0 benefit in a silicone gasket and in most situations the same goes for silicone adbv's. 3,000 mile oil changes a good jobber filter will suit you well. Aftermarket filters including jobbers are designed to meet or exceed OE specifications whatever Honda's recommendation is on oil changes the jobber will make it.My wife’s Honda fit takes most of the year to hit just 3000 miles. I've changed the oil four times since we bought the Pilot new last May. I'll use at least two per year going forward, but also have started changing oil in our daughter's 2009 CR-V and 2016 Pilot.it sounds like you're doing annual oil changes how many filters would you really need to keep on hand.
The EP is for extended runs and has less filtering efficiency (99.5% @ 25u) than the Premium (99.5% @ 20u). I would only recommend the Premium and change it ever other OCI or ~2 years. It'll do fine. If you're concerned, cut it open (and paste the tasty pics here!) or send it to someone who will (Whip City Wrencher on YT).My wife’s Honda fit takes most of the year to hit just 3000 miles. I'm running my first PLXL7317 right now and it's at about 9k kms (5600 miles) with Valvoline Restore and Protect. It's coming off soon (10k) and I'll try to remember to take pics and post it.I'll need to watch out for weeping, as I'm currently running Pentius PLXL7317s with the standard nitrile gaskets. The o ring style gaskets say to tighten down until it stopsit is entirely possible silicone is more prone to get out of shape during installation due to installer error. especially if over tightened
