I had planned on running Mobil 1 5w40 when I change the oil next weekend in my Jeep with the 4.0. Then, I caught wind of Free after rebate Pennzoil Platinum, so I went out and got a case of 10w30. I still havent seen Pennzoil Platinum in 5w40. oh well, still free after rebate.

My plan for the 5w40 Mobil 1 was 10K OCI, with filter change and top off at 5K.

How long should I run the PP? Can I safely go 10K with 5K filter and top off, or should I go 8K and 4K filter and top off?

Edit: My previous OCI was 7,500 with Mobil 1 5w30.

Thanks for the advice!

Guess I should have mentioned those things huh...
101,600 Miles on the I6, 4.0L. Driving is mostly highway or country roads, average speed is around 60 on country roads and 70 on highway. Very little city driving. 95% of driving is 25 minutes or longer. Rarely get into dusty conditions and use paper filters. My oil filter is the MC FL1A. At the end of July I will be taking a 1200 mile road trip (round trip). I will be getting a small boat and trailer, but combined they weigh around 500 lbs. Temps in the summer average 80 to 90. I will probably change the oil before it gets really cold again.

Engine still purrs, I think its smoother than a new 4.0 (I drove one today with 25 miles on it, mine was soother IMO).

As far as the oil, I would imagine that you'll end up with about 6 months use regardless of mileage. The oil could care less that it's in a 4.0.

I'd really be interested in a used oil analysis with a 30 weight in something other than a short trip environment. If anyone can get reasonable Fe numbers with a 30 weight on a highway hauler ..beautiful. As you're quite aware, fuel economy (the term) is a contradiction in a 4.0.
