Penz. Plat. w/ YB top-offs

My 98 Sienna is about 3k into a planned 9-10k OCI. It had a 5qt PP fill, followed now by a 1 qt top-off of PP (all 5w20). It's using about 1 qt/2k. So that means I'll likely be adding a qt at 4-5k and another at 6-7k. Since these top-offs will see less mileage, would you PP knowlegable types use PP or YB for the top-offs. (this engine is known for being hard on oil.)

I ask because the $10 for 5qt jug of YB is tempting.

i would stick with PP but adding 2 quarts of YB over the course of the oci wouldnt really chnge things tht much

That consumption seems high. I just finished a 9,500 km (5,900 mile) run of 10W30 Pennzoil Platinum in my 2000 Sienna. No oil was added and the level was down about 1 quart - still 1/4" above the low mark on the dipstick.

I have 223,000 km (140,000 miles) on the vehicle. This time of year I am getting 24mpg city, 27 mpg hwy with the tires at 40 psi. I just replaced the oil with Pennzoil Platinum 5w30.

It might be risky running 5W20 in that vintage Sienna. I would recommend you try Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 or Pennzoil Platinum 10W30.

Thanks mva. I've been running my tires a little over 30 psi, but I think I'll take them on up to 40.

As a rule I generally air the tires up until there is no visible sag in the sidewall, just enough to "stand" the tire up. On my car, this means going from 29 to 32 psi in the front and 26 to 29 in the rear.

The car definitely rides better and rolls more freely.

Why 5W-20 in '98 Sienna? 5w30 may slow the consumption.

ericthepig, I agree with mva and Brett, I would use at least 5w30 in your 98 Sienna. Not sure Toyota back-spec that far back. Some engines work really well on thinner oils and some don't, and your might be one of them. Being in warm/humid Arkansas the 5w30 or even 10w30 would serve you well. How many miles are on your Sienna?
