True synthetics

Here is a grab from O/K in another thread. Some of us recognize this lube. So I ask - is it a true synthetic and why should you care?

At my mechanics shop the other day we talked about oil and he said there are only 5 or 6 true synthetic oils. Three of them being Mobil1 ,Amsoil and Kendal. What is the truth to this? I know all synthetic oils are not the same and some may not be true synthetic.

Being 100% synthetic isn't the end all for being the best. That's why so many here get their oil analyzed and post the results so we can argue how well certain oils are better and how well those oils protect engines. For example oils I've used that had titanium had iron wear a couple points lower. Does T result in lower iron? I don't really know, but this site is a fun past time and finding oil at the lowest possible clearance price can be competitive.
