So I hop in my truck today and my stuff is thrown everywhere. The back window was open and stereo was gone. I call the cops and they say it isn't a big enough deal to come check it out. I live in apt complex and I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone living here. You guys ever have this happen? And have cops be so useless? I replaced the rear lock and fixed the broken window sill. The metal piece the lock latches to. Anyone have any clever tricks to stop this kind of stuff? I guess I'll go buy a cheap stereo this weekend . Most likely a used stereo.

Keep an eye out for your stereo on ebay.

When I was 17 my audio stuff was stolen, called police, said come down and write a report. they ask for a description of the items and wanted serial numbers. Told them what i knew. 2 Weeks later I was called to the station, they had busted a theft ring, and some items fit my report, got all my stuff back except my 12 in sub. Depends on how bad crime is in you're area, cops get very cynical about "petty crime" in high crime areas.

if you can put up w/ the faceplate rebooting itself 50%of the times you push a button or hit a bump, i have a gently used Kenwood excelon(kdc-x494 - JUST out of warranty) unit sitting boxed up collecting dust...has a front side aux input, and usb jack, built in thingy to directly control your iPod via usb, wireless (Ir)Remote, ummm.......
make me an offer and it would likely be yours if interested.

and craigslist

The weekend I bought my truck someone tried to get in and broke the door handle. It is not a cool feeling. I am sorry to hear when it happens to others.

Cops are not trying to be useless. They are just trying not to waste your time and theirs... Not much to be done sadly.

I would go down to the station and file a report. I doubt if they would say get lost.

And check out local pawn shops. Even if they didn't get rid of it there, you might be able to find a replacement.

Also, take your face plate out of the truck at night. A head unit isn't much good to a theif if they have to find a face plate for it.

to be fair, your right.. there can be trash anywhere, but being a little more selective about where you live can go along way..

I'm pretty sure in your state you can shoot them dead, check on the your local laws.

In Texas if the truck was on your property you would be well within your rights to light them up.

I will check to be sure by I thought in mo if they aren't actually in your home you can't use deadly force. If I can believe me I will. I work hard for everything I have and I'm not going to let some punk thug who wants to steal and be a leach on society take my stuff. I'm sure its a punk kid. Didn't take the tools just the old pioneer stereo lol. Stupid kids.

Amen brother! Which I would do in a heartbeat!

My aunt gave me this lecture today on how guns are bad and I should just let them take the stuff instead of causing violence. She is a liberal crazy as you can get! I'm exactly the opposite
I wouldn't want to hurt anyone but given the option between my stuff being taken and shooting someone
I'm going to shoot them . She's never really worked she lives off of her uncle/ husband. Not blood related just by marriage but still very wrong. Its easy for someone who hasn't ever worked to say just give them your stuff.

Maybe she values your life more than your possessions and isn't articulating it too good. You may feel differently. Either way it's a personal preference. Doesn't have to be right or wrong. I would say that it's possibly nice that you have a non blood relative who may care for you more than you realize.
