Nice choice, he should be happy with it if he liked his old Tundra. Keep in mind the 2013 has a different engine than the 2009. The 2009 was the old Toyota 4.7L with about 276 hp and a timing belt. The 2013 has a 3.6L with 310-hp and a timing chain. The 4.6L also seems to get better fuel mileage than the 4.7L.

The 4.6 gained a 6 speed transmission, with a second overdrive gear; the 4.7 was paired with a 5 speed and not as tall of a gear in 2nd overdrive.

My 4.6 has the tow package, so deeper 4.10:1 gearing. It spins at like 1,600rpm at 60mph in sixth; dropping to 5th brings it up to 2k.
