hi, I bought a used Precor treadmill. I have a dedicated 20 amp outlet to plug it in, was wanting a surge protector for two reasons. Primarily, to protect the electronics, secondly I would like an on/off switch easily accessible. Currently, the on/off switch on the treadmill is underneath the motor so a little bit inconvenient. looking at surge protectors, majority of them are 15 Amps so I am unsure if that would be enough. Any input would be appreciated, thank you.

What is the wattage listed on the nameplate? 15 amps is 1800 watts, but you want to stay under 80% of that for continuous operation.
An on/off switch will greatly improve the lifespan of your motherboard. Our 10.6Q is nearing 25 years old with regular use and the motherboard failed after just a few years of ownership. I had the motherboard rebuilt with upgraded parts (runs cooler now, but I can't remember the name of the component) and it's been great ever since. The mistake we made was never shutting off the machine at the main switch (according to the motherboard repair tech), so I like your idea of a dedicated switch. I took it one step further and never re-installed the motor hood for increased air flow.
Since you are asking this question I can only assume the plug on your treadmill is a 15amp plug. If it was a 20 amp plug it wouldnt plug into a standard 15 amp power/surge protector.
So you are fine, for a 15amp surge supressor.
If the treadmill required 20amp this is what the plug would look like and it wouldnt fit into a standard outlet.
