TRD vs Royal Purple Filters

Are trd filters backed by the same warranty as if using an oe filter, Or can the dealer service department void a possible warranty claim if related to the lube system?
Yes. No. As long as the filter installed is the 'correct' application filter, good to go. Doesn't mean an unscrupulous dealer couldn't 'try' to play some warranty shenanigans, but that would be with any aftermarket filter. It would be up to the dealer to prove filter at fault.

As for topic, I've assumed they are the same for some time. Champ Labs made. As for Amsoil, some say media is different, IDK. Possible, but it wouldn't surprise me same as the other two. I think all high quality extended oci filters that can be run with confidence.

AMSOIL has always claimed that their media is from Donaldson. The can is manufactured by several different companies including Champ, Wix and Donaldson.

I Compared These Two Filters
They are identical in every way that I could see or measure
except for the packaging and color of the O-rings. Even the
odd chemical smell that I noticed on the TRD filter some time
back is obvious on the Royal Purple. Going forward, I'll buy the
one that offers the best price.

Old thread, but by odd chemical smell, do you mean gasoline like? I just ordered 4 of the Royal Purple off of Amazon and they smell like gasoline!

I'd say that the smell was quite similar to gasoline. I just smelled my most recently purchased RP filters and didn't notice much smell ... at least not as much as I remembered it to be ... but these filters have been sitting around for a while and the smell may have dissipated.

Thanks for the info... followup question: How many miles do you run these before changing oil and filter?
