As a strange coincidence I believe the issue started soon after I replaced the timing chain - the spark plugs were pulled out, polished and greased. The engine is behaving impeccable though.
I highly doubt driving 1 qt low damaged the trans. The pickup screen is either pumping air, or it's not. If it's pumping air, there are other symptoms.
