I need help with the transfer case on my 1999 Suburban. I figure since I'm changing the transmission fluid and differential fluid, I might as well do the transfer case. Here's where I need the help - where to find it and what to refill it with.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It's bolted to the tailshaft (output) of the transmission and will have a shorty propshaft connecting it to the front diff. IIRC, the xfer case drain and fill plugs face towards the back and are both horizontal plugs with a torx, allen or socket recess on them. I think your 1999 will use GM auto-trak II transfer case oil which is a dealer only item AFAIK.

Do you have the push button 4WD (electronic Auto Trak -II ) transfer case? Then as Joel says, GM part no. 12378508 (U.S.). If not then a good ATF will work.

I guess there were four cases used in 1999:

Transfer Case,NVG 236/246..........4.0 pints
Transfer Case,NP241/243..........4.4 pints
Transfer Case,NVG 149..........4.9 pints
Transfer Case,NVG 261/263..........4.0 pints

The NV models are electronic, IIRC.

Thing is, it probably does work! I don't the have the stones to try it in my trailblazer yet until the 3/36 is up.

Had to go to the dealership to get the "special blue stuff" for the transfer case. Too bad Amsoil doesn't have a product that will work . . . maybe someday.
