my auto tranny for my 91 accord is smelling burnt. i got on the freeway and downshifted to get in front of a truck and then i started smelling this burning smell. the car doesnt shift odd at all and runs fine but it smelt funnie. later i went to a friends house and smelted my tranny fluid and it smellt like burnt fluid...the fluid is up to the line and it only been in there for about a year, maybe less...i dont know what is causing it and above all that i cant get my drain bolt off my car..its stuck..hehe u can refer to my forum "tranny change hard" in the tips section for info on that.

so is there something wrong with my tranny..is it going on its last trip? the only gear it is weird is in from R to Drive...thats it...on top of that the rest is cool...my car requires dextron II/III

What color is the fluid. A dark or black color can be indicitive of burnt fluid, as well as the smell you mentioned. BTW I've never smelled the tranny fluid while driving before. Is it leaking somewhere?

i thought that it was leaking...it seemed that for some reason it was just letting out the smell...so i looked under and saw some oil and some tranny fluid residue and wiped it off....but the smells i was smelling was for about 10 miles..so if it did burn on the exaust then that means i had to loose alot of fluid..but i didnt see ne smoke and i still have my fluid..the color is not dark red but a little darker than normal brand new ATF. but it stinks..i checked it some time ago and it wasnt like this...my friend stood by my car and he said it stinked.

is burnt fluid bad meaning is there somethign wrong with the tranny or is it that the fluid is just old? hehe darn how am i going to get the bolt out.

I'm not really sure what your next step should be. Maybee some of the more experienced members will post up with some advise. Until they do I would just check the fluid level often to make sure it doesn't get low.

well now i dont smell nothing but still the tranny fluid smells inside..i wonder if honda will take it out the bolt for me..they probably charge me an arm and a leg...

If it has a cooler in the radiator, pull the hose and pump out the old fluid while pouring in the other through the line.
