Poor little CVT! Change your fluid!

I should have mentioned, it initially would not go up the ramps... as soon as I applied throttle there was an awful shudder/schreech. I added about 1.5 quarts and it went right up the ramps no problem, while spitting a bit of fluid out the cooler. Once everything was reconnected I dumped the rest of the gallon and a bit more from another jug, about 4 liters total, so there was a good amount in the bottom of the pan already.

Those cooler lines might be due for a change out next time if they're getting hardened. Nice work!

Now spray brake cleaner around that area and make sure there are no other leaks, If you care to put that much effort into it.

Kid you not, while driving through the neighborhood this weekend, I see the hood up on a Subaru Crosstrek and what's sitting on top of the engine all proud and ready for action? Castrol Transmax ATF/CVT Universal.

Done. Sprayed it real good last night. Parked it own the street where I know it's dry and no drips this am and visual check is good.

At least until the next event ;)

Well, it's official! Car is dead. Won't shift into gear anymore, likely some solenoid that's fried from overheating due to driving it without minimal fluid in the transmission a couple times. I checked the fluid and it was clean/perfect, no leaks, at the full line. When you put it into gear you hear some clicking/noise, but nothing. Towed to the junk yard and he's got a 2014 mint Toyota Corolla with 63k kms. Good choice. Well, considering the abuse, and the fact that he got several thousand KMs out of it, it was a small investment to keep it going until now.

Well, I was pulling for the CVT to go another few years, but I guess it was not meant to be... I was wondering where did the original fluid go?
Hopefully he learned something and the Corolla will get some preventative maintenance!

The CVT radiator sprang a leak. When he showed up at my place there was almost nothing on the dipstick. Replaced the radiator, fluid and she drove perfect again for a couple weeks.
