We both bought our Fits for the mpg...to be honest I haven't seen to many younger folks in the Fits in this area, at least in NH and MA...mostly middle aged folks like my wife and I

Well 25 bucks was the magic number. Took them about 20 minutes to get her in and back on the road so she made it to work without missing much time. Sometimes you have to pay for the convenience. The nail was actually in between the tread...in one of the channels fwiw if that makes a difference in the repair procedure. Looks like they did take the tire off rim and patch from the inside based on how the rim and tire looked

I live in NH too and see a lot of kids with vehicles like the Fit. Can't say specifically that model however. I simply meant it is pretty obvious who Honda's target consumer was with the Sport option/model. IMOA.

If the nail was in the "tread" that means a tread block or one of the grooves. Basically not the sidewall. A traditional plug repair would have been fine(IMO). What matters is you got it fixed in the end.

FWIW I have been doing plug repairs for 30+ years and have only seen 2 leak after they were plugged. That was because of a minor belt separation at the puncture. One was a Michelin, the other was an old Firestone 721. I did the Firestone when I was poor and just added aerosol fix a flat sealer. That stopped the leak until the tire wore out.

If you go to a "do by the book" shop (such as Costco), they will refuse to put on a lower rated tire (even a winter one!) on a car that originally came with a higher rated tire. They even grumble when I ask to increase the PSI from 35 to 38 :-(

So how's 'bout this for an empircal observation:

Out of 4 tires that have been plugged, 2 have leaked - That's 50%, folks! Haven't had a single patch leak!

No, they are different and there's a reason why plugs are not an approved repair!

I have a plugged tire on my truck right now( EDIT - now that I think about it 2 plugged tires! ). It hasn't leaked( EDIT - nor has the other one )so that is a 100% success rate. Have had probably 10-12 tires in total plugged in my life and none have ever leaked so another 100% success rate.

No one said the inner patch and the plug were the same. I could care less if some beaurocracy has decided that the traditional plug repair, which has literally fixed millions upon millions of tires successfully, is no longer the best way to do it. They work. It is quicker and easier.

I would rather have a plug than have mny tire pulled to do an inner patch and chance damaging my rim and/or TPMS sensor. I would rather have a plug repair and be on my way in 10 minutes vs 30 minutes. I would rather have a $15 plug repair than a $25-$30 inner patch.

Different strokes for different folks. I am not saying the inner patch doesn't work nor even that it may not be better overall. It is not something that warrants that kind of thought on my part. I am simply stating the traditional plug repair works just fine. Has millions and millions of times.
