Our local Americas tire seems to have gone downhill reciently. Today was there 3rd strike.

My boss' daughter had a slow leak in one of her tires. She has been airing it up every week when the TPMS came on telling her that the tire was low.

She came by today and I soaped the tire down and found a small nail right in the center of the tread.

Since she is broke I called Americas tire to make sure that they still did free flat repairs. We sent here there.

They took the tire off the car and took the tire off the rim.

Then they told her that the tire was not repairable because the nail was too close to the edge. They did a bait and switch.

They tried to sell her a new tire but she didn't have enough money so the put the donut on and threw the old tire and rim in the trunk.

She came back to my work and we pulled the tire and rim out of the car. My boss and I inspected the tire and the only hole was the nail still stuck in the center of the tread. No evidence of it being run flat.

I pulled the nail out, called Napa and got some patches and glue delivered and I patched the hole. Then I put the tire back on the rim with screwdrivers and aired it up.

We dunked it in the radiator test tank and looked for leaks.

None found so back on the car it went.

Like Im said this is the 3rd time this particular store has tried to pull a stunt like this.

You must have a [censored] local store and manager.

I am understanding that they took the tire off the rim and then told her it wasn't repairable?

Sounds like a renegade store/operation. If the nail was in the middle of the tire I'd say a call to corporate is in order. Picture evidence would be a nail in that stores coffin. No pun intended.

Maybe even a call to BBB or some Cali. consumer agency.

I've had just opposite experience with the Discount Tire stores in this area.

One of America's tire in my area did a bait and switch to me too. I called to ask about price match and $100 off 4 tires promotional about a month ago, they first said yes I would be able to get $100 rebate for 4 tires and they also do price match. I went there and after order was put into computer, the manager said no price match, only $100 rebate. I walked out saying thanks but no-thank.

thats the store that just got there 3rd strike!

really?

Ofcourse I have not been there in months but the only problems I have had with them is I wait in line for like 30 mins and the guys standing there playing with his computer instead of servicing me.

IMO, what one of the monkees says on the phone is not the same as showing up in person and speaking to the organ grinder(manager) in person, especially with a Discount Tire store price not DT Direct. Beating a price on top of a promotion wouldn't qualify as a bait and switch in my mind.

The BBB was only a suggestion out of the blue. If you don't wish to persue it, which is what it sounds like, you just shouldn't go back. If enough people feel that way, the store will close down. As with anything, there are other stores to shop.

As I've said in the past, for me, DT has consistently delivered the excellent customer service during the sale, and unmatched service after the sale.

Chris, it's not just your local store. I've been buying tires at Americas Tires for well over 10 years and never had a problem with them until a couple of months ago. The stuck some extras on my bill that I hadn't asked for. I didn't notice until I was out of the store. i went back in and had no problem getting the extra [censored] removed from the bill and the manager apologized, said that I should have been asked before adding the extras. I figures, Over 10 years of doing business with them, what's one mistake?

Next week a friend of mine went to the same shop and bought a set of tires. He was waited on by a different counter monkey but the c.m. tried to pull the same trick on him.

My business was theirs to lose for over 10 years, they now rank no higher than the other dirt bag tire stores in my book.

This is a shame to hear. I've had excellent customer service from Discount Tire. They always try and upsell all the add-ons when you buy tires, but they've never tried to pull blatant fraud on me. I'll be on the look out now.

The store on Main Street is top notch. Friendly workers who go out of their way to help you. I have five vehicles in the high desert that they service. Rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles ...a couple flat repairs...two tires REPLACED for $17 each that could not be repaired (nail in corner or tread).

While I am sure they are not perfect, they have been with me, year after year.

Chris.. Talk to Eric Dodier if you have a problem that you feel is valid. I am confident if you have a valid complaint he will accomodate you.

When I've purchased tires, the only "extra" DT tried to sell me were the certificates for full replacement. Price given before, yes or no choice/decision. Choice is between prorata warranty and flat repair or full replacement of tire for any puncture or failure.

Everything else included in price at sale. Return visits for rotation, balance, flat repair etc., no charge.

Had the same problem, but in the end, they said I could combine the two and pricematch.

But then again, does it really matter what they tell you? I wonder what would happen if you had just asked them to pricematch and then you sent in the rebate yourself without telling them.

Next time, just plug the tire yourself.

Easier, quicker, and a lot less stress.

Yeah, but if you don't dismount the tire, you risk patching a tire that is not serviceable.

Which shouldn't be an issue if it is a simple nail or screw puncture, in the right place, and the tire wasn't run down the road when it was low on air.

But yes, this one may have been run low on air.

You're going to see some sad service at many DTs/ATs very soon.

Discount Tire is bleeding money right now (that is what happens when you try to open too many stores at one time), so the pressure is really on to make the sale, as cuts are looming....

Heck, I just found out that a bunch of tires in my size are being discontinued....

The majority complaints I've read have come from the AT side of the DT/AT combination.

And, I do know that DT has delayed the construction of many stores they had already had the site and land for. Home Depot and others doing the same.

Just recently got my OE Accord tires rotated FOC, with no change in service quality. As usual, they sent me a notice to remind me and said I could forward it to a friend. SOP.
