Anyone know anything about Toyota TRD filters? I have a 15% coupon for the local dealership, which already has a relatively good price on them. However, looking at these pics, the USA version looks like a Wix filter.

Specifically, I am interested in the 00602-90915-007. I think it is the one for the V-8s. Fortunately (or not?), it also appears to be the cheapest.

Don't know much, but last time at the stealership, the parts guy differentiated them by the "red box" TRD and the "black box" TRD. He was telling a customer that the "red" was better than the "black". I thought he just wanted to make the sale since the red was twice the price of the black

Saw a Celica while I was there a few weeks ago. It was red and has these huge TRD decals all over it along with some other "racing" decals. Big flare bodywork and a wing that could fit on a 757. Looked closer, stock GT wheels and tires, and the OEM exhaust. Guess he didn't need any hardware, all those stickers and that wing have to be good for at least 100hp

Lots GSV. Have you been to Japan and Hong Kong? TRD is readily available in Asia and the prices are very competitive.

All I know is what I have been told. Never researched it. Been told to me by a STEALer that the reason they are different is because the TRD is HIGH pressure... All that race stuff has much higher pressure protection and use... Normal application filters are still built much better than what will ever be called upon by the vehicle, but TRD has a higher oil pressure I am told and the racing applications and such need stronger parts... If I said that correctly, that is my understanding!

-cheers!

The TRD's are supposed to have a wire mesh filter element capable of better flow. At the dealer they are about $20. But I dont see the point in a $20 filter for street driving!

Apparently, there are two different makes of TRD filters. The US made, which retail around $10, are white with red lettering. The Japanese made, which retail around $20, are red with white lettering. Different part numbers. I am interested mainly in the US made version--I am not willing to part with $20 for an oil filter either.

The white filter is a Wix/NAPA.
Save yourself some money and don't buy from the dealer.
Thanks.

TRD is the filter I have gone with after talking to the Toyota parts guy. He has said they make a better filter than Toyota.
