Our Ford-built Nissan had a ton of warranty issues and it saw the dealership no less than 30 times for the first 40,000 miles.

OTOH our 2005 Sienna and 2009 Prius have been relatively trouble free, with the exception of 2 AC compressors on the the Sienna.

My 1988 Mustang GT has the ORIGINAL AC compressor. So there.

And my 10 Dodge and GM trucks and SUV's( 7 Dodge/3 GM )have had fewer problems COMBINED than my 1 Toyota( 2005 Tacoma ). Actually if you add up the # of problems with those 1o other trucks/SUV's it doesn't even come to half of the list with that ONE Toyota I owned for 7 months.

Nothing but Toyota for me.

Yeah, your chance at getting a lemon is very slim with a toyota product. I've had 14 since 88, and 1 has give me problems.

So there. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

All auto makers are affected by this, not just toyota.

I've had everything but Toyota (but would certainly consider), and they have all been good! Guess I am just lucky?

Acura
GMC
Nissan
Chevy
Hyundai
Jeep
Saturn
Chrysler
Dodge
Plymouth
Ford
Honda

So much for long term satisfaction and vehicle retention

I you've averaged 1.5 years of ownership on each.

That (for some reason) reminded me of a Cottman commercial where they had a service manager standing their with a customer..

Service guy: We're experts. We've fixed this guy's car 19 times!
Customer: 20!

My favorite was the AAMCO commercials..."Half the cars that come in don't need a new transmission..."

Of course everyone thinks the next line should be "But we put one in anyway!"

These vehicles are between my wife and I, and we do drive a lot. Also, 3 out of the 14 we currently own. Actually, i just counted and it is 13. Sorry; must have figured my daughter's Scion TC.

Over 21 years, that is not a lot of vehicles between 2 people considering we each had our own car. It actually figures to be a new car every 4 years or so per person.
We have decided though, it's time to settle down and be happy with what we got.

But considering most cars have problems the first couple years you own them, the percentages for me speak for themselves. I mean, come on; in my situation the single major problem i had with one toyota figures are 8%. So i strictly go off these percentages when i make a purchase. So my chances of getting a solid vehicle from toyota is 92%.
Not bad IMO.

Most cars do NOT have problems the first couple of years that you own them. The exception might be the first model year of a redesigned model.

Yep. Judging by the number of foreclosures, a whole lotta people haven't been paying their bills.

BTW my HOA is owed $28k in dues that were not paid. I expect that's at least a few deadbeats right there that can't get financing for the Toyota they wanted. (There's about 250 houses and dues were $33 a month).

Almost 50% of the homes in our community dont pay their dues...pretty sad.

Thank you for proving once again that Toyota owners are a lot more forgiving of things happening in a Toyota than they would be if the same thing happened in a GM product.

Every GM vehicle that I've owned that had AC NEVER had a compressor go out, yet somehow that's acceptable in the Sienna?

I can just imagine the cries of "lemon" and "typical UAW junk" if you were talking about a 2005 Impala instead....

I think that part of the reason is that, in general, Toyota doesn't give the runaround to their customers when it comes to warranty work as much as GM does.

When the problem is fixed promptly and you don't have to fight tooth and nail to get it done, it doesn't seem significant in customer's eyes.

The best warranty repair experience I ever had was at a GM dealer. The second best was at a Ford dealer..but the worst was also at a Ford dealer (a different one).

I think part of the issue with Ford is that they are cracking down on warranty fraud due to abuse.. I am reminded of the cretin who posted here about how the engine in his Explorer locked up, and he wondered if he changed the oil filter if Ford could tell that the oil had never been changed. As I recall the Explorer had 20K on it and he thought it had the factory oil filter still on it.

The problem is, now that they've had to crack down on warranty fraud because of those dishonest people trying to get something for nothing, they're hurting honest customers as well.

I dunno....ask the people suffering from the sludge-monster-engine issue how promptly Toyota fixed the problem without a fight on the part of the consumer....
